Ringside Boxing Report: Rendall Munroe vs. Fabrizio Trotta

Last night at Dublin City University in Dublin, Ireland, Frank Maloney put on an impressive fightnight that saw Rendall Munroe sweep away the challenge of Fabrizio Trotta and Olympic hero Darren Sutherland make his pro-debut.

European super bantam champ Munroe of Leicester, England was pressed hard by the Italian in the early rounds and the “Boxing Binman” took a few hard shots until he found his rhythm in the third.

That round saw him take control and punish Trotta with hard-nosed body shots that took the steam out of the challenger. By the fourth Trotta was in difficulty and was pulled out in the fifth after claiming an injured right hand.

Munroe keeps the European title and sees his record to 17-1 (8).

Sutherland looked sharp in his first pro fight, delighting the crowd at his former university by battering Georgi Iliev around the ring before finishing off the Bulgarian in the closing seconds of the first frame.

Nottingham’s Jason Booth kept his Commonwealth Bantam belt by outboxing challenger Sean Hughes, who was coming down from super bantamweight.

Booth was just too quick and skilled for the bigger Hughes, who was troubled and stopped by Booth’s constantly going to the body in the tenth round.

Former British Bantam champ Martin Power might be finished as a top flight boxer as he was stopped within two rounds by less experienced opponent Gary Davis.

Local man Paul Hyland defended his Irish Super Bantam crown against Eugene Heagney by way of a six round points win.
