Boxing Result: Jon Thaxton Loses European Title In Norwich

Last night at the Norfolk Showground in Norwich, England, Hennessy Sports promoted a fight night which was headlined by Jonathan Thaxton’s defence of the European Lightweight title against Anthony Mezaache of France.

The fight starts but with 40 seconds of the first round remaining, Thaxton landed a right hook which seemed to land in slow-motion to the side of the Frenchman’s head behind the ear and he falls slowly to the canvas.

He gets up for the count but his legs are like jelly! As Thaxton approaches, Mezaache then spits out the gumshield, walking unsteadily to his corner to retrieve it.

The referee deducts a point from the Frenchman and fighting continues, with Mezaache obviously well recovered from the knockdown. It’s a good round three from Mezaache but he’s untidy in round four and his mouth is gaping. Thaxton has a little nick under the left eye.

Thaxton seems to be missing a lot and is getting caught. A big right uppercut from Mezaache in the fifth causes Thaxton’s knees to dip, but he didn’t touch the canvas.

Round nine and Thaxton’s cut has worsened under the left eye. He is being caught by a lot of shots.

The twelfth round sees Mezaache afford a bit of showboating as the crowds cheer ‘Jono, Jono’, but the Frenchman’s face is as bloody as Thaxton’s.
Mezaache wins by unanimous decision, 115-112, 115-111 and 114-113.

Local man Danny McIntosh faced Mathew Barney of Southampton in defense of the English Light Heavyweight title for the second time since winning it in October.

Referee Richie Davies had a busy time trying to keep some order in this fight which started off messy right from the bell with both men adopting wrestling style tactics. But by round five, Barney was deducted his second point and with just four seconds of the fifth remaining, Davies stops the contest disqualifying Barney for ‘persistent holding’.

McIntosh retains his title by a disqualification and improves to 10 wins and no losses.

Norwegianbased Russian Daniel ‘Shrek’ Peret didn’t last long against new heavyweight giant, Tyson Fury of Manchester.

Scheduled for six rounds, Fury keeps busy throughout while Peret spends much of his time defending and throwing little. Sustaining a cut to the left eye in round two, Peret covers up.

His one notable shot being a left to the chin of Fury in the last 40 seconds of the round. But as he goes back to his corner, Peret’s team pull him out because of the cut. Peret is fury-ous!

Fury wins by TKO round 2 to notch up his third win.
