Espinoza Boxing: Prospect Luis Ramos Stays Undefeated

ByBoxing Press 10/03/2009

Sensational lightweight prospect Luis Ramos returned home following an outstanding performance on Saturday night, winning a four round unanimous decision over Nicaraguan veteran Anthony Martinez at the HP Pavilion in San Jose.

With the win, the 20 year old Santa Ana resident improved his record to 10-0 with five knockouts.

Working off his excellent jab, the all-action southpaw repeatedly drilled Martinez from the outside in the first round. Finding his way in close with success, Ramos did his best work in tight quarters as his accumulation of punches almost earned a stoppage towards the end of round three.

Dominating from start to finish and also displaying a solid chin to the tough as nails Martinez , Ramos won by scores of 40-36, 40-36 and 40-35.

Said Ramos, “I felt terrific, it was a quicker fight than I’m used to, but I’m happy with my performance. He hit me solidly a couple of times but I took them pretty good. It was great to fight up in San Jose and I’m glad we had so many people come up from Southern California to support me.”

Said manager Frank Espinoza, “I’m very pleased with Luis, he was in great shape and although this was only a four rounder, we’re looking to move up to an eight soon. He’s had four six rounders, gone the distance twice. We plan on having in him back in the ring either in April or May.”

“We’re very thankful to Richard Schafer and the Golden Boy Promotions team for the opportunity to fight on the card, there were a lot of great young fighters and it was a terrific experience for Luis.”

The off- TV Ramos/Martinez bout was part of an HBO Boxing After Dark tripleheader presented by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions which featured James Kirkland, Victor Ortiz and Robert Guerrero.
