Boxing In Europe: Saturday Night Results

Last night there were three good cards in Europe and we kick off this report at Mehrzweckhalle Grossziethen in Shoenefeld, Germany.

European Union Light Middleweight Champion Jimmy Colas, 26-5 (11), was dethroned in his first title defense by Lukas Konecny, 39-3 (19), via majority decision.

Haitian born Frenchman Colas saw a seven bout win streak evaporate as ex-WBO title challenger Konecny of the Czech Republic was the busier and more effective man over the 12 hard fought rounds.

One of the most decorated of all women’s boxing champions, Natascha Ragosina, 20-0 (12), kept her WBC Female, WIBF and GBU Super Middleweight titles with a stoppage of Trinidadian southpaw Iva Weston, 12-5 (1), at 1:19 of the sixth round, bringing the one-sided affair to a close.

At the Leisure Centre in Altrincham, England, Matthew Hatton, 36-4-1 (14), won a IBO Welterweight title eliminator by stopping former European Light Welter titlist Ted Bami, 26-5 (13), in the sixth round.

Hatton has reeled off three straight wins since losing a Commonwealth title clash to Craig Watson in December, 2007 and is now in a position to fight for the IBO crown.

Former English light middleweight title challenger Thomas McDonagh, 34-1-3 (7), stopped Max Maxwell, 9-6-1 (2), in the first round while super bantamweight prospect Scott Quigg, 13-0 (7), stopped Faycal Messaoudene, 3-10-1 (0), in the fifth.

Former celebrated amateur Joe Murray, 1-0 (0), turned pro with a six round points win over 36 year old Sid Razak, 3-25 (1), who has now lost 25 straight contests, at super feather.

At Budivelnik in Cherkasy, Ukraine, middleweight Avtandil Khurtsidze, 18-1-2 (11), posted a majority decision over Attila Kovacs, 25-3 (17), for the WBA Intercontinental title.

Light middle prospect Dmitry Nikulin, 17-0 (6), defeated Mikheil Khucishvili, 11-6-2 (4), who retired after six rounds and heavyweight Mario Preskar, 15-0-2 (10), won when opponent Zurab Noniashvili, 11-6-1 (6), didn’t answer the bell for the third round.
