WBA Grants Extension in Gadzhimagomedov-La Cruz Negotiations – World Boxing Association
The purse bid for the World Boxing Association (WBA) bridgerweight title fight between Muslim Gadzhimagomedov and Julio César La Cruz, which had been scheduled for Monday, May 18, has been postponed after both camps requested additional time to continue negotiations.
Representatives from both fighters asked for an extension in order to finalize the remaining details and work toward reaching an agreement. After reviewing the request, the WBA Championship Committee approved the additional negotiating period.
Gadzhimagomedov currently holds the bridgerweight crown and is slated to make the mandatory defense against the Cuban challenger in his next outing. The sanctioning body has remained in contact with all parties involved and is providing every possible accommodation to help ensure the bout is finalized in the near future.
The WBA will now await the outcome of the negotiations before making any official announcement regarding the championship clash.
