Last night at the Eston Sports Academy in Middlesbrough, England, Matchroom Sport hosted a fight night which headlined by the much anticipated Commonwealth Featherweight title rematch between Champion John Simpson of Greenock, Scotland and local man Paul Truscott of Middlesbrough.

The fight against Simpson in January was Truscott’s only defeat and ended because of a cut to the right eye as a result of a head clash.

Last night’s exciting return bout was even bloodier than the first and had the crowd applauding the gritty determination of both boxers all the way through the contest.

Sadly, Truscott was stopped by TKO in round 10 after heavy head punches landed while he was backed against the ropes.

Brave Truscott – who’s face was awash with blood from eyes, nose and mouth – was visibly distraught at the stoppage.

John Simpson retains the belt and sees his record improve to 20 wins (8 by KO) and 6 losses.

Undercard results

Prince Arron (Manchester) v Taz Jones (Abercynon)
8 x 3 Light Middleweight Contest

Jones suffered a bad cut to the right brow in round one then was on the canvas in round three, but it was a frustrated Team Arron who implored their charge to ‘get on him’.

Arron had a habit of ‘holding off’ his opponent with a glove to the forehead, which resulted in Jones complaining to referee Mark Curry a number of times.

Jones was told to ‘get on with it!’ before finding himself being given the standing eight count in the final round. Arron wins on points, 80-70, and improves to 14 wins (1 by KO), 3 losses (2 by KO).

Jason Cook (Maesteg, Wales) v Scott Jordan (Belfast)
6 x 3 Welterweight Contest

Belfast boxer Jordan was sent sprawling to the canvas in the first round. The fight got a bit messy with some wrestling-style grappling and both men were told to ‘clean it up’ by referee Mark Curry.

Round three sees Jordan sustain a cut to the left brow. Welshmen “Cookie” landed some big uppercuts and in the fourth round, Jordan was knocked down, falling heavily on the canvas – face down – with blood splattering from the eye cut.

Paramedics tended to him and he was up on his feet a few minutes later. Jason ‘The Power’ Cook wins by TKO in round four and improves to 25 wins (12 by KO) and 2 losses (2 by KO).

Stuart Hall (Darlington) v Jason Thomas (Merthyr Tydfil)
4 x 3 Super Bantamweight Contest

Thomas found himself on the canvas inside the first half minute of the opening round. Hall wins on points, 40-36, and improves to 5 wins (2 by KO), no losses and 1 draw.

Michael Holden (Manchester) v Tomas Mrazek (Czech Republic)
4 x 3 Heavyweight Contest

Prizefighter contender Holden was on the canvas in the third round but secures a draw with Czech boxer Mrazek, 38-38.

Holden improves to 10 wins (6 by KO), 9 losses (3 by KO) and 1 draw, while Mrazek’s record stands at 4 wins (3 by KO), 22 losses (5 by KO) and 5 draws.

Carl Frampton (Belfast) v Yannis Lakrout (France)
4 x 3 Super Bantamweight Contest

Frampton wins on points, 40-36, and improves to 2 wins (1 by KO) and no losses.

Gavin Reid (Redcar) v Yordan Vasilev (Bulgarian)
6 x 3 Super Bantamweight Contest

Reid wins on points, 60-55, and improves to 6 wins (3 by KO) and 3 losses (1 by KO).

Chris Riley (Middlesbrough) v Anthony Hanna (Birmingham)
6 x 3 Super Bantamweight Contest

Riley wins on points, 40-36, and improves to 2 wins, 1 loss and 2 draws.

  • Where does Usyk go from here? 27/05/2026
For once, I’m totally on board with the WBC. WBC moves to shut down Usyk-Verhoeven rematch talk I personally have NO wish to see a rematch between Rico and Usyk. Call it defensiveness of our sport. Just like I thought Fury’s narrow escape against Ngannou was cringeworthy… I also feel a sense of dread that we came “this close” to having a kickboxer defeat the […]

  • Why was Usyk so bad? 27/05/2026
What was the major factor for Usyk to perform so poorly against Rico? Rico better than expected, skilled kick boxer, huge size, awkward style, surprise element? Age of Usyk finally showing up? Weight Usyk was too heavy? Usyk not taking the fight seriously? Ukraine war on his mind? 4 posts - 4 participants Read full topic […]

Jai Opetaia Says Boxing Rewards Talk More Than Skill This has long been a thought of mine, but of course it’s always refreshing when an actual boxer says it. It could be speculated that at some point Jai could follow t […]
