Alma Meraz Puts WBA Interim Light Flyweight Title on the Line Against Eveling Ortega – World Boxing Association

The Olof Palme Convention Center in Managua will be the focal point of the 108-pound division on October 30, when Mexican champion Alma “La Leona” Meraz defends her WBA Interim Light Flyweight World Title against hard-nosed local favorite Eveling “La Colocha” Ortega.

For Meraz, this will be a test of character and championship pedigree on hostile territory. The Mexican titleholder arrives in Nicaragua’s capital with the experience and composure associated with the traditional Mexican boxing school, built around relentless forward pressure, compact combinations at close range, and sustained body work designed to wear down opponents as the rounds progress.

Her game plan will center on establishing her presence in the middle of the ring, cutting off the angles to keep the challenger from finding her rhythm and using her championship experience to dictate the pace of the fight.

In the opposite corner stands Ortega. Backed by the thunderous support of the home crowd at the Olof Palme Convention Center, “La Colocha” will step into the ring knowing she has a historic opportunity in front of her. The Nicaraguan fighter is known for her foot speed, high-tempo approach, and unwavering willingness to stand and trade punches.

Ortega will need to execute with precision, using her mobility to dart in and out with quick two- and three-punch combinations, keeping her left jab active to disrupt Meraz’s forward march, and avoiding prolonged exchanges along the ropes.

The matchup will hinge on the Mexican champion’s power and strength on the inside against the Nicaraguan challenger’s speed, movement, and overwhelming motivation in front of her home fans.
