Saturday night, at Fit City in Broughton, Salford, England, Bridgewater Professional Boxing and Hatton Promotions staged an all-action fightcard which headlined popular Mancunian – Anthony ‘Million Dollar’ Crolla as he faced veteran Sid Razak.

Anthony Crolla (Manchester) v Sid Razak (Birmingham)
6 Round Super Featherweight Contest

Crolla dominated this contest from the ‘off’. Targeting the body of Razak – it started to get uncomfortable to watch – as Crolla landed shot after shot while the Birmingham man covered up.

Crolla gets the decisive points victory (60-54) and improves to 17 wins (6 by KO) and 2 losses while Razak drops to 4 wins (1 by KO) and 44 losses (3 by KO).

Jamie Corkovic (Salford) v Matt Scriven (Nottingham)
4 Round Middleweight Contest

Debutant – Corko, got his first win against experienced Scriven. Enjoying big crowd support – Corko looked confident. The opening round saw him enthusiastically going after Scriven who – tripping over the ring hoarding almost landed head-first out of the ring!

It was a sloppy round two with Corko – perhaps a bit too enthusiastic(!)- throwing some wild swinging shots. He didn’t look happy when Referee Howard Foster warned him for pushing down. In the first half of round three – Scriven goes down from a head-shot. It’s an all-action fight with Corko getting the win on points (40-35). Scriven drops to 14 wins (2 by KO) and 65 losses (19 by KO).

Angel McKenzie (Brixton) v Daniela David (Romania)
6 Round Light-Welterweight Contest

Russian born Angel ‘The Artist’ McKenzie looked a little somber as she entered the ring for this six-round contest and it was a slow pace as they came out for the first. David suffered a bloody nose in the third round and caused a stir when officials were unsure as to the nose spray the corner were using.

Given the all-clear by ringside Doctors – undeterred David went out for the fourth with a now – white nose (!) McKenzie secured the points win (60-55). Always happy to pose for photos – Saturday night was no exception for this Big Brother Celebrity!

McKenzie improves to 4 wins and 18 losses (2 by KO), while David drops to 4 wins (1 by KO) and 19 losses (7 by KO).

Bret Murphy (Gorton) v Alex Spitko (Mansfield)
6 Round Middleweight Contest

Debutant Murphy had a bad start to his pro-career against the Latvian-born ‘Pitbull’. Despite his confident manner (‘laughing-off’ a couple of shots) – there was nothing he could do about the nasty cut to the left brow at the end of the opening round.

Not allowed to continue as he comes out for the second – it’s a disappointing start to the Gorton-man’s pro-career. Spitko improves to 7 wins (5 by KO) and 22 losses (8 by KO).

Maxine McCarthy (Salford) v Zsofia Bedo (Hungary)
4 Round Featherweight Contest

Debutant McCarthy had big support from the Salford-crowd. I liked her ‘old-style-boxer’ stance. She faced late opponent – Bedo, and looked ‘at home’ in the ring.

McCarthy gets the points win (40-36) to notch up her first pro-win. Bedo drops to 2 wins, 14 losses (3 by KO) and 1 draw.

Kieran Maher (Hattersley) v Mattew Seawright (Tamworth)
4 Round Welterweight Contest

It was a quick night’s work for Maher who scored a first round knockout win against Seawright – who had been dropped twice in the opener.

Maher improves to 5 wins (1 by KO) and no losses, while Seawright drops to 3 wins, 27 losses (8 by KO) and 1 draw.

Stephen Russell (Paisley, Scotland) v Mo Khaled (Sheffield, from Qatar)
4 Round Super-Bantamweight Contest

Ingle-boxer Khaled got off to a good start against Russell. The Paisley man picked up in the second frame but Khaled still looks strong – neatly switching stance as he focuses on his opponent.

Russell’s right eye – which was starting to swell – began to bleed in the third round and Khaled lands a shot right on the injury which opens it up. Seconds later the Sheffield man lands a shot to the left of Russell’s face and he touches down – forced to take the count from Referee John Latham.

Khaled wins on points 38-37 and improves to 4 wins, 7 losses (2 by KO) and 3 draws while an unimpressed Russell drops to 7 wins (1 by KO) and 1 loss.

Rhys Roberts (Manchester) v Pavel Senkovs (Mansfield / Latvia)
4 Round Super-Bantamweight Contest

Roberts wins on points (40-36)and improves to 9 wins (1 by KO) and no losses, while Senkovs drops to 2 wins (2 by KO), 15 losses and 2 draws.

Jai Opetaia Says Boxing Rewards Talk More Than Skill This has long been a thought of mine, but of course it’s always refreshing when an actual boxer says it.
