This past weekend at the Leicester City FC training ground, media gathered to watch Rendall Munroe as he trained alongside his favourite football team.
The Leicester Bin-Man fights Mexican – Victor Terrazas, at the Coventry Skydome this Friday on a Frank Maloney Promoted fightnight.
Super-Bantamweight European Champion – 2Tone Munroe, faces Terrazas in a WBC Title Eliminator which will lead the way to a World Title shot against Toshiaki Nishioka of Japan.
Training yesterday began inside the sports hall – where Munroe did a number of stretching exercises, short circuit training, balancing and use of the football under the watchful (and amused) eyes of Mike and Jason Shinfield.
Munroe finished off (indoors) with some punch-bag work – he pounded away at the punch-bag while Leicester City players – Paul Gallagher and Jay Spearing tried to keep the bag steady (!)
Outside on the pitch – Munroe joined in the football skills training and I was surprised to see how ‘at home’ he looked. He certainly didn’t stand out as being the non-player (!)
Afterward, Munroe (sporting autographed boxing gloves) posed for photographs alongside Leicester City Manager – Nigel Pearson, who declined when asked if he’d like to put on some gloves (!)
Munroe’s team said it had been ‘something different’ and Munroe had ‘enjoyed the change from routine’. “I’m ready and looking forward to the fight,” Munroe said with a big grin.
