Boxing In Britain: Chris Edwards vs. Ashley Sexton Fight Off
This evening, SaddoBoxing went along to see Chris Edwards at Impact Boxing in Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent, England to hear that the Flyweight Champion is ‘gutted’ that he will no longer be fighting on next weeks Haye v Harrison Bill at the MEN Arena.
Edwards, who has struggled to find opponents since his last outing in February has now heard that Ashley Sexton – his opponent for the 13th November – has pulled out.
Sexton, of Cheshunt, apparently has been suffering with Flu and does not feel up to the task. Edwards looked visibly deflated by the disappointing news but – still smiling – was philosophical, saying ‘it’s happened and that’s boxing’.
Trainer Lyndon Newbon said that ‘training had gone perfectly’. “Chris has worked hard in training – he was really fired up for this fight and couldn’t wait to get in the ring. Weight has been spot-on, everything was going to plan, he’s looked fantastic. I’m just gutted for Chris that after all the hard work it’s come to nothing.â€
The next couple of weeks were scheduled to be ‘busy’ for the Team at Stoke. Impact Boxer – Andy Keats makes his debut on the Paul Dykes Dinner Show next Thursday, facing Dan Carr of Trowbridge. And former Champion Scott Lawton is a contender for the next Prizefighter event at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, on Saturday 20th November. Trainer Lyndon agreed that there is an ‘exciting line-up’ for Prizefighter the Super-Featherweights – deemed to be the best yet.
“Scott has done well in training†Lyndon added , “he’s up for it and looking forward to the eventâ€.
