Hennessy Boxing: Logan Cotton McGuinness Vs Uriel Barrera

ByBoxing Press 03/03/2011

On April 16th, the Sons Of Orangeville come home, headlined by NABA Lightweight champion Logan Cotton McGuinness (14-0-1, 7 KO’s) and his highly anticipated Orangeville debut against tough-as-nails Mexican Uriel Barrera (19-5, 10 KO’s) at the Tony Rose Arena.

Sons of Orangeville is presented by United Boxing Promotions, in association with Hennessy Sports.

McGuinness, who impressively defended his NABA Lightweight title against Dominican knockout artist Hector Julio Avila with a 4th round KO on February 19th, is considered one of the hottest boxing prospects in the world, and is eager to show his stuff in front of his hometown fans.

“I’ve come such a long way in just 15 professional fights,” said McGuinness.

“And it means a lot to me to be able to show my hometown fans the fighter that I am today.”

The 5 foot 8 inch lightweight is a slick boxer puncher who is able to shift on the fly from mover to banger. Working behind a thudding jab, McGuinness softens up foes with fast, powerful rights and lefts, before digging in with what is becoming his signature weapon; a debilitating left hook to the body.

“He’s worked on all facets of his game, and has quickly become the type of fighter that offers no safe space in the ring,” said McGuinness’ promoter, Adam Harris, President of Hennessy Sports Canada.

“If you try to run from Logan, he’ll hunt you down. And if you want to slug in the trenches, he’ll box your ears off before finishing you. There’s nowhere to hide against Logan.”

Also appearing on The Sons of Orangeville is local welterweight Ryan Wagner (2-1, 1 KO) who will be fighting for the first time since his lone career setback this past October, when he dropped a 6 round unanimous decision to undefeated prospect Samuel Vargas.

“Ryan is a hard working kid, and a guy that obviously wants to get back on the winning track,” said Don MacDonald, President of United Boxing Promotions.

“I’m sure a chance to fight at home will be the extra fuel that he needs to rebound from the Vargas loss.”
Sons of Orangeville also marks the return of former national amateur standout Steve Franjic (2-0, 2 KO’s), who’ll be facing an opponent yet to be named.

According to Don MacDonald of United Promotions, bringing a card to a market like Orangeville was an easy decision.

“When we were promoting Logan’s fight against Buzz Grant last year, we came to Orangeville, and we were blown away by the turnout and support. And now I get to deliver on a promise I made that day to the fans in Orangeville, that I’d bring a pro card to town,” said MacDonald.

“And with the way Logan is going, this could be the last chance for fans to see him fight before he gets too big for these local venues.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that this kid has world title fights in his near future”

Tickets to the Sons of Orangeville starting at $30 are available now by calling (647) 918-4760 or emailing sales@unitedpromotions.ca. Further news about this historic show including details on ticket outlets throughout the Orangeville area will be announced next week.
