Heavyweight Boxing: Can Haye Upset Dominance Of Klitschko Brothers?

It was almost two weeks ago that WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko made quick work of Cuban-born challenger Odlanier Solis in Cologne, Germany. In fact his ring entrance lasted longer than the fight – which saw him defeat Solis in the first round.

There was some confusion at the time as to what had happened but Klitschko – having landed a left to the temple of his opponent – then watched as Solis struggled to get to his feet with an apparent leg injury.

The day after the fight, Vitali made a statement saying “I feel I hit him hard. This was a knockout, what happened after that…ligaments…knee….it’s his problem”.

Clearly disappointed that his fans had witnessed less than three minutes of their man boxing – Vitali jokes that next time he won’t touch his opponent for three rounds so it’ll last a bit longer!

WBA Champion – David Haye was not impressed by the result. The Brit – now at training camp in Miami – referred to Solis as another ‘fat bum’.

Haye will be facing younger Klitschko brother – IBF, WBO and IBO Heavyweight Champion Wladimir. The Klitschko v Haye fight (signed contractually now) is scheduled to take place in Europe on the 25th June or 2nd July. The Hayemaker isn’t apparently bothered who he fights – as long as it’s a Klitschko (!) with rumours rife that if Wladimir bows out he is happy to take Vitali instead.

Wladimir has been noted as saying he will not be looking for a quick knockout of Haye – instead preferring to punish him over the twelve rounds, saving the knockout for the final frame. Usually it’s Haye who enjoys the verbal slating of his opponents but it seems he’s gone quiet for a bit while he trains.
