Goossen-Tutor\’s 23 Crazy Fight Days.

ByBoxing Press 29/08/200529/08/2005

With a hectic 8-world class boxing events in just 23 days, it will undoubtedly be a period of time to remember for Goossen Tutor Promotions and their fighters, as it brings major events and match-ups to fight fans around the world. “Fall has always been a good season for boxing, but it seems that 6 months worth of boxing is being squeezed into 23 crazy fight days for our company,” said Dan Goossen of Goossen Tutor Promotions. “I can’t explain it, but things just kept falling on our lap and we said sure, why not? From current and former champions like Robbie Peden, James Toney, Glen Johnson, Julio Gonzalez and Lakva Sim to rising stars like Andre Ward and Robert Guerrero, we’ve got something for everyone in September and October. It’s a great time to be a boxing fan.”

First up on September 9, former world champion Julio Gonzalez looks to regain the light heavyweight crown when he travels to Sheffield, England to face IBF 175-pound king Clinton Woods. A Gonzalez victory puts him right in the middle of the Roy Jones, Antonio Tarver and Glen Johnson group.

Next up on September 16, At the Palace Indian Gaming Center in Lemoore, California, unbeaten NABF featherweight champion Robert “The Ghost’ Guerrero defends his NABF title in a 12-round bout. Also featured is highly regarded heavyweight prospect Rafael Butler in a 6-round bout. Guerrero is now universally considered the heir apparent to the featherweight crown.

Travel starts to get hectic for Goossen Tutor because that same night in Atlanta, Georgia, Goossen Tutor’s former lightweight champion Lakva Sim faces top contender Ebo Elder in a WBA Lightweight title elimination bout, with the winner to face champion Juan Diaz. As an added incentive for Sim, who lost his crown to the unbeaten Diaz, is the prospect of facing Diaz healthy and with the added tutelage of Joe Goossen for the past 4 months.

One day later and a flight back to West Coast time, Robbie Peden puts his IBF super featherweight crown on the line in a unification bout against WBC champion Marco Antonio Barrera at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, September 17. This bout will headline a card to be televised on HBO PPV. Peden looks to throw himself into superstar status with a victory over Barrera on Mexican Independence Day, Australian style.

With less than a two-week breather, Goossen Tutor is right back with a special Friday night edition of FSN’s “Best Damn Fight Night Period’ on September 30, when former light heavyweight champion Glen Johnson returns to the ring in an IBF title eliminator against hard-hitting world contender George Khalid Jones. The card, which will be telecast live from the Cache Creek Casino Resort right outside Sacramento, California, will also feature an eight round heavyweight contest between up-and-comers Jason Gavern and Travis Walker and undefeated (26-0, 19 KOs) welterweight Paul “the Punisher” Williams.

The next night and a short plane ride to Reno, it’s the fan anxious and long-awaited return to the ring of former middleweight, super middleweight, cruiserweight, and heavyweight champion James “Lights Out’ Toney, who battles tough Dominick Guinn in Reno, Nevada on Saturday, October 1. Showtime Championship Boxing televises “Lights Out in Reno” “Its Showtime’ event at the Reno Events Center.

Not even the Concorde could get the Goossen Tutor team from Reno to Tampa, Florida in time to catch 2004 US Olympic Gold Medalist and unbeaten middleweight Andre Ward when he returns in a six round bout also on the same night, Saturday, October 1. A day or two to catch their breath, Goossen Tutor gets ready for the next edition of FSN’s “Best Damn Fight Night Period” on Friday, October 21, when they present an outstanding night of world-class boxing at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California.

“I’ve given one message to all of our fighters and team at Goossen Tutor, lets work hard and enjoy the upcoming 23 crazy fight days ahead of us,” Goossen stated.
