UK Weekend Roundup

ByJane Warburton 04/03/201312/05/2013

In Sheffield on Friday night, Jez Wilson won the vacant British Masters Gold Middleweight Title by first round TKO. Wilson of Sheffield defeated Taz Jones of Abercynon, Wales in one and a half minutes. The ‘Fire on Ice’ fight-night promoted by Glyn Rhodes featured seven undercard bouts.

At Burton-on-Trent, Steven Pearce of Stourbridge won the vacant Midlands Area Welterweight Title. Pearce scored a fifth round TKO over Luke Gallear of Derby.

The PJ Rowson Fight-night featured three undercard fights from local boxers.

At the Wythenshawe Forum, Manchester, local man Jimmy Kilrain Kelly junior scored a first round KO over Simone Lucas of Nottingham.

The Steve Wood / VIP Promotions fight-night featured 5 undercard bouts.

In Southampton, local man Matty Tew lost to Santiago Bustos of Palma de Mallorca, Spain, by third round KO.

In Sheffield on Saturday night, Lewis Taylor of Dronfield, Derbyshire, won the vacant International Masters (Bronze) middleweight title by sixth round KO over Greg O’Neill of Horden, County Durham.

The Dennis Hobson promoted fight-night featured six undercard bouts.

In Swansea, Wales, Tobias Webb of Swansea won the vacant Welsh Area Super Middleweight Title when opponent Lewis Patterson of Cardiff was forced to retire at the end of the fourth with a hand injury.

In Lincolnshire, Ryan Clark of Navenby lost out to Martin Concepcion by TKO in the seventh. Concepcion of Leicester wins the vacant Midlands Area Super Middleweight Title.

Also on the Carl Greaves promoted fight-night, Amir Unsworth of Sleaford won the vacant British Masters light-welterweight title by out-pointing Chris Truman of Birmingham.

In Johannesburg, South Africa, Matthew ‘Magic’ Hatton of Manchester was outpointed by South African Chris Van Heerden. Van Heerden retains his IBO Welterweight Title. On the same Bill, Matty Clarkson of Preston won his contest by seventh round TKO over the local man – Tshepang Mohale.

We hear that Eddie Hearn of Matchroom signed George Groves today. Groves (who was with Promoter Frank Warren) will now box on the 9th March Wembley show against Argentine Dario German Balmaceda – instead of his scheduled March 16th fight.

And finally, Olympic Boxer Luke Campbell has skated his way in to next week’s final of ‘Dancing on ice’. Last night, skaters ‘took to the air’ in their ‘flying routines’ and I must admit it was fantastic to watch. Despite a bit of motion-sickness, Luke performed well. Not so for this week’s evictee – Rugby Legend Gareth Thomas – who suffered so badly with motion-sickness that he could not continue the competition. Luke competes in the final against celebrity skaters Matt Lapinskas of Eastenders and Olympic Gymnast – Beth Tweddle in a battle for this year’s accolade.

  • Kugan Should Retire! 16/09/2026
He’s Eddies mate and I know they’ve been doing interviews since before either of them really had a profile…but Eddie still gives Kugan wayyyyy too much latitude in the interviews that Hearn needs to resonate with the public. Kugan constantly cuts across him, with some meaningless aside, or to tries to get a rubbish ‘gotcha’, for no reason. There are better i […]

  • Ain't we all want to see Jai v David? 14/09/2026
Don’t we? Let’s cut all of the bullshit here. This is the only fight worth a $100 PPV buy, it’s Jai Opetai v David Benavidez. Canelo is in the background now. He is not worthy of paying any attention to at this point and time. Plus, since Crawford is retired, he is not worth mentioning either, even if he comes back to fight Boots… There is no other fight on […]
  • Where does Conor Benn go from here? 14/09/2026
Conor Benn has been exposed as a no better than a Misfit fighter. He has just been destroyed in 2 rounds for an undeserved Welterweight world title. His best win is against a faded if not shot Eubank Jnr at middleweight. So where does Conor go from here? Conor has already managed to secure a multimillion contract from Zuffa which may be in jeopardy. As a res […]

  • Ran my first half marathon last week Sunday 11/09/2026
I did it. Ran a half marathon in training last week Sunday. I did it in 3 hours, but I did it… lolol… I could do it in 2 and 1/2 hours though. For the first time, I walked a good bit of the distance… And the shoes I had on was not good for long distances. So, I started to get pains in my ankles, Achilles and ACL… But with the right shoes I can def do that in […]

  • Hrgovic's career path 05/09/2026
Hrgovic has finally made it to the mountain as IBF world champion. He has himself to blame for not training hard enough or working on his conditioning, and his management team for failing to get him a title shot sooner. I get it. He wasn’t born with boxing’s golden ticket — he isn’t American or British. His only loss came on a night when a dirty Dubois had h […]
