The son of legendary Mexican boxing champion Julio Cesar Chavez continued his march on the light welter division as he made an appearance on the Corrales – Castillo 2 undercard tonight, taking on journeyman Jeremy Stiers.
Round one: The fight starts with Stiers forgetting his mouthpiece. He comes back throwing jabs and trying to stalk Chavez in the early going. Chavez returns fire, but neither have landed. Chavez isn’t pressing to much in the early on, allowing Stiers to jab at will without returning fire. Chavez is now throwing punches, landing at the minute mark with two left hooks to the body followed by a right hook upstairs. With thirty seconds left, Chavez keeps throwing hooks to the body, and at the closing of the round throws a few blows to Stiers’ body. Chavez’s round.

Round two starts with Chavez bolting out of his corner, but Stiers lands first with a nice right hook to the body. Chavez counters with a straight right. Chavez is now pressing a lot more, and is throwing a lot odf straight rights to the body, and is landing at will. Stiers seems timid. Chavez Jr. lands a nice right hand to Stiers’ head and is now landing them at will. Chavez is throwing lots of combos now, and with thirty seconds left presses Stiers against the rope and lands two hooks to the body, he does the same at the closing of the round. Once again, Chavez’s round.

Round three: The round starts with Chavez Jr. feinting with the jab a little, and has Stiers on his toes. Less then a minute in, Chavez is landing a lot of straight rights and left hooks to Stiers body, and they look painful, each one landing on spot. Stiers is throwing out the occasional right uppercut, but it seems those are just being thrown in an effort to create distance. Chavez continues to pound the body relentlessly, and Stiers has yet to find a defense against them. Chavez is now throwing to the head, throwing left hooks to the head and right uppercuts that land as the round closes. Chavez is dominating, I don’t think Stiers landed anymore then five punches that round.

Round four: The round opens with Stiers coming out and throwing a straight right that seemed to hurt Chavez Jr., Chavez is standing motionless in front of Stiers ate two or three in a row. Chavez recovers and it looks like he was never hurt, pressing Stiers against the ropes landing a straight right followed by a right hook to the body, a combination he’s used many times over this fight. Stiers is against the ropes once again at the minute mark, and Chavez just keeps landing, throwing some left and right uppercuts now at the fifteen second mark. Once again, at round’s closing, Stiers eats a big straight right to the head. Chavez wins again.

Round five begins with Chavez Jr. unleashing a big straight right to Stiers, and is now pressed back against the ropes eating shots to the body, particularly the left hook to the bodythat Chavez Jr’s dad made famous. Chavez Jr. lands another straight right and the fight is called off. Good call by the ref.
At just nineteen years of age, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is already 23-0 (18) while Jeremy Stiers falls to 9-5 (6)
