Boxing Round by Round: Peter Manfredo Jr. – Sergio Mora

ByAdam Matson 10/16/200510/16/2005

Round one: this middleweight fight starts with Mora immediately throwing an overhand right but it fails to land. Manfredo quickly starts throwing jabs and stalking Mora, but isn’t landing anything. Manfredo lands the first real punch of the fight a minute in with and overhand right. Mora escapes though but presses himself against the rope where Manfredo hits him with another overhand right. Mora escapes but puts himself right back against the ropes and Manfredo lands another overhand right. That right hand of Manfredo cuts Mora and Mora starts fighting with a sense of urgency, pushing Manfredo against the ropes and lands a right uppercut. The round ends and the fighters taunt each other and talk trash after the round ends.

Round: Manfredo 10-9 Fight: Manfredo Jr. 10-9

Round two: Manfredo comes out immediately with a jab, but Mora avoids it and throws some jabs of his own to Manfredo’s body. Manfredo gets put against the ropes and Mora lands a huge right hook. The fighters tangle and the fight is taking place on the inside, with Mora landing his left hook with frequency. The action is broken and the doctor looks at the cut and Mora is allowed to fight. Mora comes back from the break trying to get outside again but Manfredo is keeping him at bay with the jab. As round two closes, the two tangle on the inside exchanging hooks with Mora landing another giant left hook to Manfredo’s chin as the round closes but Manfredo throws a left hook after the bell. Mora seems to know he is fighting on borrowed time with the cut, and he is trying to end the fight prematurely. He won the round with his left hook.

Round: Manfredo Jr. 10-9 Fight: 19-19

Round three: the round starts with Mora’s cut looking as bad as ever. It is a nasty cut. Mora closes the distance for the first time in the round fifty seconds in but Manfredo lands a right hook, a hook similar to the one that cut Mora. Sergio looks very tired this round, and Manfredo looks to have much quicker fists. Mora gets Manfredo on the ropes and lands three giant hooks, two to the head and one to the body. Mora follows the hooks with a right uppercut. Manfredo gets off the ropes, and Mora charges towards him before being sent back with what looked like a straight right hand. Very impressive round for Manfredo, other then the three hooks a little more then halfway through the round, Manfredo completely dominated.

Round: Manfredo Jr. 10-9 Fight: Manfredo Jr. 29-28

Round four: the round starts with Mora trying to get on the inside, but Manfredo keeps popping the jab out in front of his face and that deters any efforts to get inside. Mora gets Manfredo on the ropes but Manfredo is able to get off without Mora throwing any punches. Manfredo lunges inside with the straight right, and Mora gets caught off guard every time he does that. Mora is on the ropes, and Manfredo is teeing off on him, using his jab to set up a variety of punches, mainly the straight right and right hook. Mora has been able to beat to that punch the whole fight, he isn’t reacting well to it either. Manfredo’s round.

Round: Manfredo Jr. 10-9 Fight: Manfredo Jr. 39-37

Round five: Manfredo comes out and immediately gets Mora on the ropes, able to score with the right hook and left hook. Mora comes back by getting Manfredo on the ropes, he is hitting with the overhand right, the right uppercut, the left hook, every punch in his bag and Manfredo is taking a beating on the ropes. Manfredo has to be hurt, he ate forty seconds worth of punches. The action is stopped with another check of the cut. The fight is allowed to continue. Mora comes right back and gets Manfredo on the ropes landing a big overhand right, but Manfredo battles back with a right hook of his own, the round comes to a close with both fighters taunting and talking again. Thrilling round, won by Mora

Round: Mora 10-9 Fight: Manfredo Jr. 48-47

Round six: let’s see what Mora can doafter his biggest round of the fight. Manfredo, as usual, is jabbing for the first minute and slowly stalking Mora, maybe looking for a chance to put Mora on the ropes. The action has slowed for the first half of this round, the only action has been a few jabs from Mora and a couple missed right hooks. With forty seconds left, Mora lunges inside with a left hook but is hit with a jab that sends him backwards and as Manfredo charges after him, Mora lands a big right hand to Manfredo’s stomach. As the round ends, the two trade hooks, but neither of them make solid contact. That round might have been Mora’s worst. He was very inactive.

Round: Manfredo Jr. 10-9 Fight: Manfredo Jr. 58-56

Round seven: with only six minutes to go, the cut on Mora’s right eye looks like it is no longer a factor. thirty seconds in, Mora puts Manfredo on the ropes and lands a straight right hand that breaks Manfredo’s guard, and then follows up with a big left hook. Manfredo comes right back with a right hook that catches Mora moving backwards. Mora lands a big right uppercut that catches Manfredo’s jaw with a minute left. Mora puts Manfredo on the ropes but is unable to capitalize on the big punch. The fight goes to the inside and Manfredo once again beats Mora to the punch by landing a very big right uppercut with ten seconds left. Manfredo backs up, Mora invites Manfredo to the inside, but Manfredo puts his hands down and declines. Manfredo’s round.

Round: Manfredo Jr. 10-9 Fight: Manfredo Jr. 68-65

Round eight: aftter a fight full of taunting, both fighters touch gloves at the beginning of the round. The fight immediately goes inside, Mandfredo gets Mora on the ropes and nails him with two wide left and right hooks to the body. The action breaks for a short moment and Mora starts using the jab again, trying to follow it up with a big punch, but Manfredo’s in your face style isn’t allowing that. With two minutes left, Mora gets Manfredo on the ropes and throws a couple big left hooks but Manfredo’s defense is preventing any of those punches from landing. In the last minute, Mora looks gassed, as he is staying on the outside for the majority of the last thirty seconds. The fighters trade on the ropes with ten seconds left with neither fighters landing anything. Manfredo clinches and the fight ends with Manfedo sticking his arms in the air. Any respect the two showed at the beginning of the round is replaced with Mora giving Manfred a dirty look as he sticks his arms in the air. That was Manfredo’s round, and Manfredo’s fight.

Round: Manfredo Jr. 10-9 Fight: Manfredo Jr. 78-74

The official scorecards read 77-75, 77-75, 75-77 with Mora receiving a split decision victory.
SaddoBoxing had Manfredo ahead by four rounds but with the win Mora, of Los Angeles, CA sees his resume to 17-0 (3). Pawtucket, RI’s Manfredo drops to 24-3 (10).

  • Errol Spence v Tim Tszyu - June 2026 4/7/2026
The clash between Spence and Tszyu had reportedly been lined up to take place in June. Tim did suffer a cut in his bout against Nurja, which could potentially delay proceedings. I am concerned that Spence has not fought for years now and having no warm up. This may show that he has not much left and cashing in. Tszyu secured a one-sided unanimous decision wi […]

  • Rene Santiago to defend his WBA and WBO junior flyweight belts in Japan 4/2/2026
Rene’s not talked about much. Even here in Puerto Rico he’s not as well known as Xander Zayas or even Oscar Collazo. But he’s got 2 of the 4 belts in the division, and tonight he defends them against Masataka Taniguchi in Japan. Gotta hand it to him. This is his 3rd straight fight in Japan. I admire any fighter who’s willing to go halfway around the world to […]
