Apart from the main event, there were some excellent fights on the Johanneson – Fehintola undercard last night. It was a really entertaining evening, people all around the Barnsley
Metrodome stood on their feet, applauding the contests.
Welterweight John ‘Fireball’ Fewkes came out to huge support against tattooed opponent Scott Haywood of Derby. A confident Fewkes looks skilful as he trades with the taller, rangy – “Super Scott” in round one. But a chip of a punch from Haywood provokes a cocky grin from Fewkes.
Haywood is cut on his right brow during an action-packed second round but then Fewkes looks under pressure now as Haywood increases the work-rate, maybe sensing some urgency from his cut. Team Haywood are claiming it’s a clash of heads which has led to the damage around his eye. The crowd are really noisy, chanting “Super, Super Scott, Super Scotty Haywood!”
This is a close contest, first Fewkes has the upper hand, then Haywood takes the lead. Not surprising that the referee has them just one point apart with Fewkes winning on points 77 – 76
Fewkes dashes straight over to Haywood and holds his arm aloft, giving him the respect he deserved. Everyone stands up to applaud both boxers for a really entertaining fight.

Brian Magee of Belfast vs. Paul David of Sheffield at super middleweight.
From the stable of Dominic Ingle, Paul David was encouraged to “fence” Magee by his corner (this is a technique which looks like you’re fly-fishing without the rod!)
David goes down in round four but it looked like a slip, and an eight count was delivered.
David took a few good shots but Magee was bloodied from his nose and Dominic
shouted that his nose was “busted”! David is on the ropes quite a bit as Dominic shouts out to him.
Promoter Frank Maloney is clearly enjoying this one as he laughs while watching by
the ropes. In the sixth and final round, David is cut on his left brow before Brian Magee wins on points 58 – 56.
