“The Ghost” Guerrero Joins Forces With Crossfit For Comeback

ByBoxing Press 6/5/2014

The CrossFit nation is introducing its latest athlete, three-time and two-division world champion boxer Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KOs), who is returning to the ring on June 21 at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. against Yoshihiro Kamegai (24-1-1, 21 KOs), and on display will be a physique molded by intense CrossFit training. The event will be televised live on Showtime at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program aiming to improve, among other things, cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy. Guerrero has added CrossFit to his workouts, making him the first official CrossFit boxer.

The outcome will be a more powerful, stronger and explosive Robert Guerrero. With CrossFit’s popularity spreading rapidly around the world, Guerrero can be the first CrossFitter to win a world championship and make himself a household name in the CrossFit community.

CrossFit Director of Training Dave Castro, who introduced Guerrero to the popular exercise regimen, believes “The Ghost” will perform at an optimum level with his new training techniques.

“Robert Guerrero is already an elite athlete and we added our unique CrossFit training to his workouts with the goal to make him as fit as possible,” said Castro. “One of our top trainers, Brian ‘Tosh’ Chontosh, has been working with Robert for the last few months and he’s seeing incredible results with his speed, strength and stamina.

“The CrossFit nation is ready to embrace our new athlete, Robert Guerrero, and unite with the boxing community, while showcasing the machine that is ‘The Ghost’.”

“I’m very happy to have been introduced to CrossFit training, the workouts have been unbelievable,” Guerrero said. “I’m still doing my usual boxing training with my father [Ruben Guerrero], but we added CrossFit into the routine. My training is intense, and I can definitely see the difference.

“My body feels incredible and I sense my stamina is at an all time high. Although I’ve been cooped up for over a year, I’ve been working out with my dad and the CrossFit community. I can’t wait to get into the ring and let my hands go.”

Guerrero vs. Kamegai is a 12-round fight promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Corona and AT&T. In the co-main event Gary Russell Jr. faces Ukrainian star Vasyl Lomachenko in a 12-round showdown for the vacant WBO Featherweight Title and in the opener Devon Alexander will face off against Jesus Soto Karass in a 10-round super welterweight match up.

It will take place at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., and will air as the Showtime Championship Boxing main event live on Showtime at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT and will be available in Spanish via secondary audio programming (SAP).

Tickets priced at $150, $75, $50 and $25, plus applicable taxes, fees and services charges, and are available for purchase online at AXS.com, by phone at 888-9-AXS-TIX (888-929-7849) and at StubHub Center Box Office (Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. PT to 6 p.m. PT).

  • Callum Smith injured 4/7/2026
Callum Smith has pulled out of the David Morrell fight which was due to take place in his hometown Liverpool on 18rh April. I was looking forward to this fight. Callum has a rib injury during training camp. This is a big blow for him as he has not fought since he had that epic victory over Joshua Buatsi. Ben Whittaker will be headlining the event now. talksp […]
  • Errol Spence v Tim Tszyu - June 2026 4/7/2026
The clash between Spence and Tszyu had reportedly been lined up to take place in June. Tim did suffer a cut in his bout against Nurja, which could potentially delay proceedings. I am concerned that Spence has not fought for years now and having no warm up. This may show that he has not much left and cashing in. Tszyu secured a one-sided unanimous decision wi […]

  • Devin Haney vs Rolly Romero collapses 4/3/2026
Negotiations for a WBO and WBA welterweight unification clash between Devin Haney and Rolly Romero have reportedly collapsed. Organisers had planned for the fight to headline a PBC event on May 30, live on Amazon Prime PPV. Haney has turned down the fight. The reason for Haney pulling the plug is that he wasn’t offered a guaranteed purse. PBC instead propose […]
  • Rene Santiago to defend his WBA and WBO junior flyweight belts in Japan 4/2/2026
Rene’s not talked about much. Even here in Puerto Rico he’s not as well known as Xander Zayas or even Oscar Collazo. But he’s got 2 of the 4 belts in the division, and tonight he defends them against Masataka Taniguchi in Japan. Gotta hand it to him. This is his 3rd straight fight in Japan. I admire any fighter who’s willing to go halfway around the world to […]
