WBA Update: Alvarez Birthday, Golovkin Focused For Geale Fight

Today, the Mexican boxer Saul “Canelo” Alvarez celebrates a birthday and the World Boxing Association family wishes him the best on this special day.

Alvarez, who celebrates his 24th birthday, was born México. He has been linked to boxing since a very young age; he made his professional debut in 2005, became the WBC champion in 2011 with 36-0-1 fights, and then, in 2013 he won the WBA super welterweight belt by defeating Austin Trout.

He met his first defeat on September 14, 2013 against Floyd Mayweather Jr. He returned to the ring this year with two victories, one over Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo and the other over Erislandy Lara.

He is a tireless worker, exemplary athlete. Happy birthday “Canelo”! Keep on the good work!

The World Boxing Association middleweight super world champion, Gennady Golovkin, made a public training and spends some time with the press in his training camp in Las Vegas.

Golovkin is training with Abel Sánchez, for his upcoming title defense against Daniel Geale, on July 26 at the Madison Square Garden in New York.

The Kazakh has been world champion ince 2010, and has immaculate record after 29 fights, 26 won by KO. About Geale, he said “Daniel Geale is a former world champion and a dangerous opponent. I feel terrific; this is a big fight for me. This is a big test for me”.

Golovkin confirmed he has no weight problems, and is very happy in his training.

Golovkin said it is very motivated to be back to the Madison Square Garden. He is focused on Geale and he hopes that in future he could fight “against Miguel Cotto or Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez at the same Madison Square Garden”.

Golovkin told reporters invited to his training camp that he is confident he will succeed this commitment, and that he see action again in October or November, but for now “I am sure that I will give a great show on 26 July”.

Last week, Golovkin was a guest at a Los Ángeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres baseball game, and threw out the first pitch of the game.
