The WBA Championships Committee denied the request for a direct rematch by Anselmo “Chemito” Moreno, after he was defeated by the Dominican Juan Carlos Payano, who is now bantamweight world champion.
Additionally, rules E.21 and E.22 of the regulation provides that the referee has the authority to stop the bout after consulting the doctor in the event of a cut or injury.
In the case of the Moreno vs Payano fight, the referee exercised his discretionary authority to consult the doctor. Therefore, he stopped the bout regardless of who was ahead on the cards.
Based on the foregoing, the claim of Moreno has been denied.
