WBA Update: Uchiyama, Nava, Gomez Chagaev, Browne

Japanese boxer Takashi Uchiyama made public his gratefulness for being elevated to Super Champion of the world of the super featherweight division by the World Championship Committee of the World Boxing Association.

The Japanese fighter said he was very happy for the honor he received, and promised to keep on defending his championship belt as he has done so far.

“It is an honor for me to receive this appointment as super champion of the world. I want to thank the World Boxing Association and its vice-president and its president. I feel proud to continue working to be better boxer every day.”

The super champion of the world’s record is 22-0-1, 18 KO’s, and has held the “Regular” belt since 2010. After defeating Juan Carlos Salgado in Tokyo, he has has mounted nine successful defenses.

The Women’s super bantamweight champion of the World Boxing Association and WBC, the “Aztec Princess” Jackie Nava will defend her title again against the Argentinean Mayra Alejandra Gómez this Saturday in Baja California.

The fight will take place at the Rosarito Convention Center in Mexico and will be the sixth championship belt defense of the black and gold belt for the Mexicana, and her record is 31-4-3, 13 KO.

The challenger is 16-3, 4 KO and makes her first attempt to win the WBA/WBC belts. She was already the WBO bantamweight champion.

The WBC appointed American Rocky Burke as referee of the bout, and Marty Sammon (US) as judge. The WBC supervisor will be Alejandro González

The WBA appointed the judges Carla Caiz (US) and Carlos Sucre (VEN), and the supervisor will be Alberto Sarmiento (Ven).
The championships Committee of the World Boxing Association have ordered Ruslan Chagaev and Lucas Browne to begin negotiations for their mandatory fight.

Chagaev is the Heavyweight champion, while Browne is the highest available contender, number 4, of the division and Intercontinental champion.

The negotiating period given is 30 days; in case they do not reach an agreement the WBA will open the fight to Purse Bid.
The Russian Chagaev has held the regular championship since July 6, 2015 when he defeated Fres Oquendo.

The Australian Browne’s record is 22-0, 19 KO’s, while the champion stands at 33-2-1, 20 KO’s.
