There will be WBA Fedelatin and Fedebol title activity during the month of June in different boxing shows in the region.
This Friday, June 5, 2015 features the first WBA Fedelatin title fight of the month. The Dominican Republic will be hosting its local fighter Andy Pérez (19-2, 18 KO) against the Cuban Pedro Rodriguez (20-1, 17 KO) in an 11 round fight.
In Venezuela, on June 20 at the Alba Hotel in Caracas, a vacant WBA Fedebol Middleweight title bout occurs between local man Frank Rojas (14-0, 10 KO) and Colombia’s Arvey Montes (10-0, 9 KO) in a nine round bout.
In addition to these fights, there will also be a WBA Fedecentro title clash on June 27 in the Palace of Sports in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico.
At super featherweight, Puerto Rico’s Orlando “El Fenómeno” Cruz will fight Mexican Sergio Villanueva. In super flyweight division, local boxers Carlos Rodríguez and Edwin Rodriguez will face off.
All fights will scored by local officials and they will use the half point evaluation system.
The California State Athletic Commission has appointed America’s Tom Taylor as the referee of the World Boxing Association featherweight title fight between defending champion Jesús Cuellar and challenger Vic Darchinyan this Saturday at the StubHub Center, Carson, California.
Also appointed were judges Rubén Carrión, Sergio Caiz and Max de Luca.
Cuellar (26-1, 20 KO) will defend the “regular” WBA crown, that he was awarded in 2012 when he won the interim title by points against Claudio Marrero. This is his fourth defense.
Darchinyan (40-7-1, 29 KO) is coming from a ninth round stoppage victory against Juan Jiménez last February. Last year he lost by fifth round KO against champion Nicholas Walters for the WBA title.
The Armenian fighter has already been flyweight world champion, super flyweight, Bantamweight and now is expected to conquer the featherweight belt on Saturday in California.
