Reigning World Champions Clash: Brækhus vs. Kühne

ByBoxing Press 16/09/2015

Undisputed WBC/WBA/WBO/IBO and IBF Female Welterweight Champion Cecilia Brækhus (27-0-0, 7 KOs) wants to kick off her K2 Promotions/IMG collaboration with a bang, when she takes on German triple-title holder Ramona “Wild Dragon” Kühne (23-1-0, 8 KOs) at the Klitschko vs Fury world title clash on October 24 in Düsseldorf.

”The First Lady of Boxing” returns to the ring 11 months after successfully defending her fourth world championship title against IBO title-holder Jennifer Ratzke in a unanimous points victory.

“This will be a great challenge for me after my injury and great fight for the both of us,” Brækhus said. “Kühne is a very skilled boxer and she’s fast. It motivates me a lot. But I’m much more powerful than her. I can promise a fight worth seeing, but there’s no doubt she’ll end up in lots of trouble,”.

Brækhus’ opponent, the WBO/WIBF and WBF Female Super Featherweight Champion Ramona Kühne, last entered the ring on August 1, winning a unanimous points victory against Austrian Doris Koehle.

Kühne’s 13 successfull world title affairs include bouts for light welterweight, lightweight, and super featherweight titles earlier in her career. Now she’s stepping up to face the world’s best female boxer in the sport today.

”I’m very eager to show my true fans – especially the Norwegian audience, who has supported me faithfully throughout my whole career – that I’m still the undisputed no. 1,” Brækhus said.

Since middle of August, Brækhus has been training in the legendary Kronk Gym in Detroit, US, with her new trainer Johnathon Banks, to prepare for her undercard fight at the 55,000-seat Esprit arena in Düsseldorf.

This week she joined Wladimir Klitschko’s training camp in Hollywood, Florida, and at the end of September the two world champion teams will move to Austria to prepare for their title fights on October 24.

“Training with Johnathon has taken my boxing to a new level. It’s been hard, but my fans will see a stronger, faster and wiser champion when I return to the ring in Düsseldorf. I can’t wait,” Brækhus said.

The complete showdown at Esprit arena in Düsseldorf will be available on pay-per-view in the Nordic countries on Viasat’s satellite platform, and online via Viaplay service across Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.

The main fight of Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tyson Fury will be broadcast live by RTL (German-speaking countries), Sky Sports Box Office in Great Britain, and HBO in the USA.

Tickets can be purchased from www.eventim.co.uk

  • Haney does not want to fight Shakur 23/10/2026
I’ve seen their sparring videos on YouTube. And I can see why Haney is having all of this hullabaloo before signing on to fight Shakur Stevenson. He knows he can’t beat Shakur. Plus, coming off of that ass-whipping he got from Ryan Garcia, steroid claims aside, he knows Shakur will cook him and he does not want to have another legitimate loss on his record. […]
  • Ryan Garcia v Floyd Mayweather? 23/10/2026
Could this silly fight happen? A 50 year old who has not fought since 2017 taking on a young peak welterweight. Surely it can’t happen. Conor Benn was bad but this is awful. 3 posts - 3 participants Read full topic […]
  • Why did we believe Morrison would have beaten Mercer? 22/10/2026
Why was anyone giving Tommy Morrison a chance in that fight? That fight went the way it was supposed to go, with Ray Mercer winning even though that ko was probably one of the most brutal you would ever see in boxing. Check the facts, Mercer beat Morrison in the amateurs. Handily as well. Mercer was the champion… Mercer was the heavy favorite. 3 posts - 2 pa […]
  • I just realize how scared Spinks was ahead of his fight against Tyson 22/10/2026
Did you guys stop to appreciate how frightened Spinks was? Even as a trained fighter like himself, you could see the visible fear in his eyes. He knew he stood no chance of winning. He also was probably thinking about how bad those punches were going to hurt. lolol… I could swear I saw him trembling in the ring when Tyson’s music came on and started his walk […]

  • Do we understand that these people are FIGHTING? 03/10/2026
We watch boxing as if it is just a sport. But do we realize that these people are fighting. Like, literally trying to beat each other to death in the ring? Do we appreciate how different that is? I was sitting back today and watching some old fights and the reality hit me. These people are actually fighting. How amazing and shocking that is at the same time? […]
