Welter Novice Hennon Promises Action In Second Pro Bout

ByBoxing Press 19/10/2015

Kent welterweight prospect George Hennon (1-0), trained by Johnny Greaves at the Peacock Gym in Canning Town, London, England, looks ahead to his second professional bout this Saturday against Ali Wyatt (4-28-2) on a Carl Greaves Promotions show at the Grays Civic Hall.

The former English kick-boxing champion opposes Torquay-based boxer Wyatt in an attempt to double his win tally at the same venue as his debut on June 20 this year, successfully kicking off his pro boxing career with a shut-out points win over Matt Seawright (5-122-5) over six two-minute rounds.

In what will be his maiden four three-minute rounds contest, the 21-year-old said, “I feel wicked and I just can’t wait, I’m excited now! Coming into this fight, I’ll be calmer as I’ve already been there. I feel so much fitter and stronger now and I’ve learnt so much in this period between now and my debut.

“This time, I’m gonna’ step it up a lot more, in my first fight I had a few nerves, not wanting to get caught or do anything stupid, obviously I don’t want to get caught and do anything stupid this fight either but I am gonna’ step it up a lot.”

Iranian boxer Wyatt recently floored unbeaten prospect Tony Milch (8-0) in July this year, just losing out on pulling off the major upset by one point, scored at 38-37 to the Bushey boxer.

Of his forthcoming challenge, Hennon said, “I haven’t really looked at him at all for the past few weeks, just gonna’ get in there and stick to what Johnny [Greaves] has been telling me, and I’m pretty certain we’ll get the win.”

The Kent boxer plans to increase the pressure in his second bout to impress the crowds with an improved performance.

He confirmed, “Definitely more pressure, the last one was a bit more relaxed, so this time there’ll be a lot more action.”

The 21-year-old from Snodland recently sparred with 36-year-old former Southern Area, English, and British light-welterweight champion ‘Lightning’ Lenny Daws at his gym, Rosehill ABC, in Sutton, Surrey.

Trained by former pro boxer Johnny Greaves, as well as brother – Frank, Hennon also benefits from top class sparring with teammates Sonny Whiting (2-2), Ryan Taylor (10-4-1), and YouTube sensation Romeo Romaeo (9-0).

“I feel a lot stronger, got more punch-power, plus with the sparring with Lenny Daws, I learnt a lot, I took a lot out of that, so I feel more confident being in there with someone of his level so it’ll be a lot more of a polished performance,” he said.

“It’s my second training camp, my one before my debut, I was actually training all the way from New Year, helping Sonny [Whiting] for his February fight so basically it’s like my third camp really. My whole body shape is changing and adapting where my nutrition is getting better, I’m eating more but getting the weight off easier. I feel strong at this weight.”

Despite his young age, Hennon enjoyed a successful kick-boxing career spanning 13 years, picking up English and European titles.

“I did have that experience from my kickboxing career fighting in front of big crowds,” stated Hennon. “But my debut fight was the first time fighting without a head guard on. To be fair, I didn’t really get hit, or I probably did but the adrenaline got me through; much prefer it without the head guards.”

Promoter Carl Greaves already has a Christmas show lined up on December 3 at the same venue in Grays.

Hennon plans to be a part of it, “I do want to get one more fight in, hopefully in December. Obviously, I’m fully focused on this fight first but Johnny [Greaves] will have something planned for me for the end of the year.”

Hennon drew a big crowd on his debut and has managed to add more numbers to his fan-base as his name begins to spread.

“I’ve done more ringside tickets so it’s more money in this time,” said the likeable 147-pounder. “You do get people that are starting to pull out after saying that they 100 per cent want tickets, but I’ve still sold more tickets than last time. It’s the last week so it’s also the week that people buy them.

“The support that me and Sonny [Whiting] get is fantastic, they are so loud and take over the venue, it’s the best support from our area.”

Teammate Sonny Whiting, likewise trained by Johnny Greaves at the Peacock, also lives in Kent in the nearby Medway town of Rochester.

The headlining fight on October 17 was due to feature yet another Medway boxer in Adam Dingsdale (13-2-1), contesting for the vacant English lightweight championship against Grimsby’s Kevin Hooper (17-3), but the main event was cancelled following Dingsdale’s withdrawal due to injury.

Essex boxer Paul Hilz (1-1), 34-years-old, goes up against Dunstable’s 35-year-old James Conroy (1-8) in an eight three-minute rounds super-middleweight contest.

Product of Ross Minter’s rising Queensbury Boxing League, Joe Jackson Brown (2-0) takes on Lithuanian Egidijus Kakstys (5-23-2) in a light-heavyweight contest.

Two debutants complete the line-up in welterweight John Wheatley from Harwich, Essex and Nigerian light-welterweight, Idris Hill.
