A six round Lightweight contest, this all-action fight saw former British and WBU Champion Gomez sustain a cut above his right eye in the first round and another cut by the end of the second.
Midway through the third round, Hamidi’s corner threw in the towel, much to the relief of the Syrian who’d taken some tough shots from Gomez.
Light middleweight Brian Rose of Blackpool was impressive as he faced Justin Barnes of Liverpool (originally The Netherlands). Having dropped to his knees twice, Barnes, who was bloodied from cuts, was halted in the second round. This puts Rose at an unblemished five professional wins.
Light heavyweight Sean Crompton, the former wrestler from Wigan, stopped opponent Irfan Malik in the third round of Crompton’s second professional fight ,completing the “hat-trick’ for Bobby Rimmer.
Bobby Rimmer told SaddoBoxing last night that “Michael [Gomez] received two cuts in the fight, so he’ll be out for a bit. He’s still training in the gym, but he won’t be fighting now before September to give his cuts chance to heal. Brian also won’t be back in the ring till September. He’s had four fights in five months, so needs a bit of a rest really. Three out of three wins last weekend, so we’re very happy!”
