Boxing Press Conference: Junior Witter vs. Vivian Harris

Yesterday, at the Hellaby Hall Hotel in Hellaby near Rotherham, England, WBC Light Welterweight Champion Junior “The Hitter’ Witter came face-to-face with ex-WBA Champion “Vicious’ Vivian Harris as they met for a pre-fight press conference ahead of Hennessy Sports’ Friday night clash at the Doncaster Dome, billed as “Vicious Hittersâ€.
Prior to the conference, both men appeared calm and Harris in particular was in a very relaxed mood, smiling and chatting.
And, surprisingly, this was a quiet and civilized affair. Witter spoke quietly as he answered questions from the press and Vivian Harris was far from vicious as he replied to the small number of questions asked.
The press commented on the difference in height of the two men, to which Witter commented that the tallest boxer he had fought was Chris Henry, who was 6 foot 2 inches tall. “It’s easier to punch up than punch down†he smiled. To which Witter’s trainer Dominic Ingle added that “height wasn’t a problemâ€.
It was difficult to get more than a few words out of either man.
Dominic Ingle was asked how he’d rate this fight, to which he said that “both men are at the top of their game, Junior is at the top of a mountain keeping everyone off and Vivian is working his way upâ€. Dominic was sporting a black eye and confessed that it was Witter who’d caught him during a heavy sparring session. “It felt goodâ€, Witter laughed.
Witter said he’d “still be champion, but couldn’t predict which roundâ€.
Regarding his preparation over here in the UK, Harris said that “everything has gone as plannedâ€. When prompted by the press – Harris said he wasn’t phased by Witter’s style – which the press commented was mesmerizing in the ring.
Mick Hennessy said that this was “the best fight at 140 lb this year and there are some big fights coming up. I still believe that Junior is Number 1 – even with Hatton at 140 lb. There are three big fights this year – and this is one of themâ€.
Also on the bill at The Doncaster Dome, Robert Nelson faces Andy Bell for an Inaugural English Super Flyweight Championship and former British Lightweight Champion Lee Meager versus ex- European title challenger Laszlo Komjathi of Budapest.
