Following the announcement of Ricky Hatton’s next fight just a few days ago, it’s clear that “The Hitman” is as popular as ever. Hatton’s “Homecoming” fight at City of Manchester Stadium in Manchester, England on May 24 has sparked a ticket-buying-frenzy amongst fans.

Talking to Sky Sports on Friday night, The Hitman confirmed that despite only going on sale at 10.00 am Friday morning – an incredible 45,000 tickets had already been sold that day.

Hatton told Sky Presenters, “Support is phenomenal…I desperately wanted to fight back in England to say ‘thank you’ to all the 35,000 fans who went over to Las Vegas to cheer me on and also to the fans who can’t afford to go over to America for every single fight”. When asked about his thoughts on fighting at his beloved Man City Ground, Hatton replied “I’ve finally got my dream, 55,000 people – a fantastic occasion, and now I want the performance to match the occasion”.

Confirming that he had signed with HBO for three fights, Hatton said he would be fighting in the States again and hoped that IBF Light Welter Champion Paulie Malignaggi would be one of those fights. Admitting that he wouldn’t be boxing for much longer, Hatton said that fighting at the City of Manchester Stadium and New York’s Madison Square Garden were the only goals he had left.
