British Boxing: Post-Mayweather Ricky “Hitman” Hatton Hits The Ground Running Before Lazcano Bout

Ricky Hatton told press last week that after suffering his first defeat to Floyd Mayweather,”I’ll come back stronger – that’s how great boxers are made”. At the official Frank Maloney promoted press conference last Thursday to announce the Hitman’s next fight against Mexican-American Juan Lazcano, Hatton spoke of the difficult few weeks following the fight on December 8.

“I genuinely thought I was going to win,“ said Hatton. “Afterward, I went on holiday for a few weeks, then watched the tapes again and started to pick out the positives”.

Despite having huge respect for Referee Joe Cortez, Hatton admitted he’d been ‘disappointed’ at Cortez’s handling of the fight. And it seemed at the press conference, that much of the questioning from Press revolved around the Mayweather fight and the fact that Hatton had not been ‘allowed’ to fight.

There weren’t any questions about Ricky’s next opponent, Juan Lazcano, the one who should have shared some of the limelight (as it was a press conference about ‘their’ fight!) It seems that the Mayweather vs. Hatton fight is the one to be talked about for quite some time to come!
