Boxing Press Conference: Lee Meager vs. John Murray At Manchester 325

Yesterday at Manchester 235 – the smart Casino/bar venue in Manchestersâ€™ Northern Quarter – Hennessy Promotions hosted a press conference ahead of Friday nightsâ€™ clash which headlines John Murray and Lee Meager. The fight night – billed as â€œStrictly Businessâ€ sees Mancuniansâ€™ Meager and Murray fight it out for the vacant British Lightweight title at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan, England.

Both boxers were very relaxed as they chatted to press. John Murray was particularly jovial as he jokingly posed for photographs. And he was clearly delighted to be wearing the brand new â€™Manchester Cityâ€™ Shirt. â€œThe new Man City shirt isnâ€™t due to be released for a couple of weeks,â€œ said Murrays trainer Joe Gallagher, â€œBut theyâ€™ve given a shirt to John and heâ€™s got the number 11 on the back to coincide with the 11th Julyâ€.

Lee Meager was wearing rival team Manchester United’s shirt, which also sported a number 11 on the back. Meager said, â€œIâ€™m feeling great and the training has gone really well, Iâ€™m just waiting to â€˜get on with itâ€™ now.â€ When asked how he saw the fight going, he replied â€œI donâ€™t give predictions but it will be a good win for Meagerâ€.

Other fights on Friday night include:

Bradfordâ€™s Nadeem Siddique faces Walsallâ€™s Steve â€˜Bomberâ€™ Saville in an eight round light welterweight contest. Saville trains at the Wednesbury Boxing Academy and won on points over tough Baz Carey three weeks ago. â€˜Golden Boyâ€™ Siddique has a perfect 22 and 0 winning by second round knockout over Alex Brew in May this year.

Workington-born Darren Askew is looking for his fourth win as he’s currently at 3 wins and 1 loss, when he takes on Yorkâ€™s Graham Fearn in a six round welterweight contest.

Former IBO Champion Brian Magee of Belfast, Northern Ireland faces Simeon Cover of Worksop in a six round super middleweight contest.

Martin Gethin of Walsall faces John Baguley of Rotherham in a six round light welterweight contest.

Opponents for Ali Shah of Blackburn and Khurrum â€˜Icemanâ€™ Hussain of Bradford/Sheffield have yet to be confirmed.
