On Monday, two-time world welterweight champion Antonio Margarito will host an open media workout in Montebello, CA, before breaking camp and heading to Las Vegas, NV.
Margarito is in his final days of preparation for “The Battle!”, the four-bout pay-per-view extravaganza headlined by Margarito’s world title rumble with WBA Welterweight Champion Miguel Cotto, in a battle of legendary 147 pound superpowers.
The bout marks the first time that Cotto has faced a reigning world champion, as he acquired both his belts, the WBO Light Welter and WBA Welter, in vacant title bouts against the likes of Kelson Pinto and Carlos Quintana.
Margarito has faced two reigning champions over three bouts: Kermit Cintron and Daniel Santos (twice), winning one, losing one and drawing in the third.
Promoted by Top Rank, “The Battle!” will take place Saturday, July 26, at the MGM Grand Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, NV.
Margarito, 36-5 (26), from Tijuana, Mexico, is 9-1 in world welterweight championship bouts. Cotto, 32-0 (26), from Caguas, Puerto Rico, a two-division world champion, has successfully defended his welterweight title four times since winning it in December 2006.
