On Thursday night, at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall, British Boxing Board of Control Chairman Charlie Giles presented Ron Gray with a ʽplaqueʼ bearing Gray’s name – identical to the plaque that is displayed on the wall for honorary members of the ʽBlack Country Wall of Fameʼ. The ʽwallʼ gives recognition to those notables, from all walks of life, that have contributed to the area.
Formerly a heavyweight boxer back in the sixties, Mr. Gray has since been a trainer, manager and promoter, having promoted over 150 ʽshowsʼ in the West Midlands.
Talking of his pride at being inducted to the ʽWall of Fameʼ – Mr. Gray then gave credit to other local boxing guys which included Pat Cowdell and Joe Skeldon’s father. He also added that heʼd enjoyed the nightsʼ boxing, which had been hosted by First Team Promotions, PJ Rowson and Errol Johnson.
