Almazbek “Kid Diamond” Raiymkulov picked up a big win last night at Buffalo Bill’s in Primm, NV by posting a ten round majority decision over highly seasoned former world lightweight champion Javier Jauregui.
Raiymkulov looked to be on the verge of a world title shot after drawing with Joel Casamayor in 2005 but later that year was stopped by future world champion Nate Campbell and has since racked up six straight victories going into last night’s contest.
Jauregui won the IBF Lightweight strap in 2003 but lost in in his first defense and has had a checkered career ever since, going 6-4 over his last ten bouts.
In the bout against Raiymkulov, the busy 35 year old Jauregui managed a higher workrate over the first half of the bout but couldn’t sustain it, absorbing some heavy shots down the stretch and losing a majority decision 97-93, 96-94 and 93-93.
Raiymkulov improves to 27-1-1 (15) while Jauregui loses his second in a row to drop to 53-16-2 (36).
On the undercard, highly touted light middle prospect Vanes Martirosyan, 21-0 (13), posted a ten round points verdict over previously unbeaten Michael Medina, 18-1-2 (14), via scores of 100-90, 98-92 and 97-93.
