Saturday night at the York Hall, Bethnal Green in London, Frank Maloney Promotions staged another action-packed night of boxing.

The main event of the night was the scheduled ten round contest for the vacant Southern Area Welterweight title between Scott Woolford of Ramsgate, Kent and Tom Glover of Maldon, Essex.

Scott ʽThe Gentʼ, lost last time out to Matthew Hatton on points and tonight would be a tough contest again. Both men came out looking good, but Glover seemed to have a real confidence about him and scored a number of head shots with both left and right straight punches through Woolford’s weak defence.

Woolford gets through with some good left and right hooks but Glover seems to find his target easily and Woolford goes down in the ninth round.

Getting up from the count – the likable Kent man looked tired but continued to fight it out to the finish, losing by one point to Glover 97-96

Glover’s record now stands at 6-5-3.

Other ʽbattlesʼ on Saturday night see Kevin Concepcion of Leicester lose out to Yassine El Maachi of Finsbury Park.

Also known as ʽThe Showmanʼ – this Moroccan born boxer certainly ʽput on a showʼ. Reminding me of Naseem Hamed, El Maachi enjoyed the attention as he entered the ring wearing leopard skin tabard and matching shorts!

Having a very ʽopenʼ style of stance – southpaw El Maachi looked super-confident. He pressured Concepcion on the ropes in round two and landed a big left punch which sent Concepcion to the canvas.

Getting back up, Concepcion was under pressure again and is stopped by the referee a moment later.

El Maachi wins by TKO in round two and his record improves to 6-4 (2).

Popular Gary ʽHot Stuffʼ Woolcombe of Welling, London, faced late opponent Janis Chernauskis of Latvia for a six round light middleweight contest.

Both get off to a steady start but Chernauskis is already marked-up around the left eye in round one. Woolcombe lands a big left hook a second before the bell end and the Latvian looks startled by it!

A solid punch in round four from Woolcombe and Chernauskis lands on the canvas heavily. I was surprised to see him get up from the fall but he did – and he seemed to recover amazingly quick!

It was a good round five from both men but Chernauskis takes a couple of big punches which saps him and Woolcombe gets the win on points.

Woolcombe’s record now stands at 26-2 (10).

Other results include:

Chas Symonds (Croydon) vs. Tomas Grublys (Canning Town)
6 x 3 welterweight contest

Symonds, “The Croydon Bomber, sustained a cut to the left brow in round one. He was bundled through the ropes in round three and took a lot of shots from last minute Lithuanian opponent Grublys.

Looking exhausted in the fourth and final round – Symonds was lucky to see it through to the end of the contest and sadly was taken to hospital afterward. Grublys achieved his second pro win.

Larry Olubamiwo (Hackney) vs. David Ingle by (Morecombe)
4 x 3 heavyweight contest

ʽMean Machineʼ Olubamiwo notched up his second pro win when he stopped ʽDingleʼ in the second round, but not before the Morecombe man got in with a couple of big punches of his own.

Ingleby went down in round two and although he got up from the count – he was stopped by the referee as he was pressured on the ropes by Olubamiwo.

Ben Murphy (Hove) vs. Michael Frontin (Edmonton)
6 x 3 lightweight contest

Murphy wins on points. His record stands at 6-1 (3).

Tom Dallas (Chatham) vs. Howard Daley (Preston)
4 x 3 heavyweight contest

Giant 6 foot 6 inch tall Dallas stopped Daley in round two of their bout, improving to 3-0 (1).

Mark Stupple (Bermondsey) v Peter Dunn (Pontefract)
4 x 3 light middleweight contest

A great effort from experienced ʽDesperateʼ Dunn could not deter Stupple, who gets a points victory to gain his third win with one loss.
