Ringside Boxing Report: Matthew Macklin vs. Wayne Elcock

Saturday night at the Aston Events Centre in Birmingham, England, Hennessy Sports hosted a fight night billed as ʽBattle of Brumʼ headlined by ʽBrummiesʼ Wayne Elcock and Matthew Macklin as they battle for the British Middleweight Championship.
Wearing glimmering green, Macklin enters the ring alongside trainer Joe Gallagher and nutritionist Kerry Kayes as ʽAinʼt No Stopping Us Nowʼ rings out around the arena.
The Champion follows as Wayne ʽMad Dogʼ Elcock entered the ring to huge support and cheers of ʽElcock, Elcockʼ.
It’s a good opening round with both men picking their shots. Macklin smiles wryly in the last 20 seconds as Elcock lands a left-right combination to the head. But Macklin has kept focussed and seems to look carefully for his shots, dipping low to target the body of Elcock.
Round two and Elcock is throwing shots but seems off-target. With just over a minute remaining, Macklin lands a left followed by a right straight punch to the face of Elcock, whoʼs head rocks back.
Elcock looks shocked by the blows and seconds later, fast-fisted Macklin goes in with an uppercut. Itʼs another good round for Macklin, who looks faster and fitter than ever before.
In the opening half minute of the third round, Macklin lands a big right to the face of Elcock, who stumbles backwards from the force. Dropping his hands, Elcock takes a number of punches to the head until finall,y he drops heavily to the canvas.
He takes the count, but Macklin goes straight in with more head shots and a dazed Elcock is stopped by referee Victor McLoughlin.
Matt Macklin is the new British Middleweight Champion by third round stoppage. His record now stands at 24-2 (17).
