Greek light welterweight prospect “Mighty” Mike Arnaoutis grabbed another eye-catching win tonight at the Chumash Casino, Santa Ynez, California, USA by stopping Jauquin Gallardo in three rounds. Gallardo hit the canvas twice before referee Raul Caiz was forced to halt the action merely seconds before the end of the round. Arnaoutis made waves the last time he fought two months ago by stopping Jesse Feliciano in the first round. Feliciano hit the deck no less than three times in that encounter. So Arnaoutis keeps the boxing world talking about him as one of the latest in a long line of light welterweight standouts. He moves his record to twelve wins, no losses, two draws and six knockout wins.

Alcine Destroys Ouellet.
Quebec middleweight contender Joachim Alcine took another step forward in his career tonight at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada by disposing of former Canadian champion Stephane Ouellet impressively before the end of the first round. Alcine needed less than a minute to stop Ouellet who appeared to be in tears as the final punches came thundering over him and the referee came between him and Alcine. A perrenial figure on the Quebec fight scene, it would appear that the ride is over for Ouellet who suffered his second consecutive stoppage defeat; Ouellet was savagely beaten in two rounds three years ago by recent title challenger Omar Sheika. Alcine moves his professional record to twenty-one wins, no losses with fourteen knockouts.

Golota decided to sign a promotional deal with Don King because he felt that Kind more than anyone else woul dbe able to deliver him the titles he has missed out on during his career. Well, King has come through and then some. Golota however, has failed to capitalize thus far, losing a decision to John Ruiz and failing to win the IBF title in a disputed draw with Chris Byrd. Darchinyan Wins the IBF Title.
It was a battle of undefeated fighters at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel, Hollywood, Florida, USA as Irene Pacheco risked his IBF flyweight title against Australia-based Armenian Vic Darchinyan. And what a risk it turned out to be. A very competitive battle was fought between the two fighters until the eleventh round when Darchinyan finally took over, repeatedly putting the champion to the canvas with left hooks until the referee Jorge Alonso had seen enough and called a halt to the action. Darchinyan had fought exclusively in Australia up until last night but he proved that fighting overseas will not be a problem for him as he put and end to the more than five year reign Pacheco had enjoyed as the champion.

Viloria Scores a KO.
Last night in the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles, USA, former Olympian and current flyweight contender Brian Viloria demonstrated exactly why he is known as the “Hawaiian Punch” by knocking out Angel Priolo in the seventh round. With the win, Viloria stays unbeaten and only six of his opponents have managed to last the distance.

Duddy Has Irish Eyes Smilin’ in U.S.
Unbeaten middleweight John Duddy’s (7-0, 7 KOs) classic Irish blood-and-guts style of fighting and matinee idol looks has helped him capture the hearts and minds of boxing fans in his native Northern Ireland, as well as a growing number in the United States, particularly on the East Coast. Duddy has followed the same Emerald path across the Atlantic earlier taken by fellow Irishmen such as former world champions Steve “Celtic Warrior†Collins and Wayne “Pocket Rocket†McCullough. In less than a year and one-half, despite seven months of inactivity due to passport problems, the Derry (Northern Ireland) native and now Queens (NY) resident has continued the strong Irish tradition in boxing, already establishing him as one of boxing’s most exciting prospects. Khan to Fight with the Pro’s.
pro long before the next Olympics. Warren secured a three-year deal with Britain’s Amateur Boxing Association for amateurs and pros to share the same bills. He hopes Khan will figure on the undercard of Joe Calzaghe’s next defense of the WBO super-middleweight title in March. Although they won’t be paid, amateurs will fight in team events under regular amateur rules at the same venues where pro fighters meet in twelve-round title fights. “I think it makes sense for Amir to have more time in the amateurs but I do not believe he will box in the next Olympics,” Warren said. “This historic deal gives amateur fighters the chance to build a profile before they turn professional.”

Tyson Charges Dropped.
Mike Tyson closed the book on Wednesday on one of his many run-ins with the law: His brawl last year with two men outside a Brooklyn hotel. Wearing a pink button-down shirt, leather jacket and cap pulled low over his eyes, Tyson made his way through a clump of photographers and the occasional fan to a downtown Brooklyn courtroom. The former heavyweight boxing champ had completed the 100 hours of community service imposed when he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct under an agreement with prosecutors, lawyer Mel Sachs told the judge. Tyson, thirty-eight, did more than 100 hours of work with children at gyms in Brooklyn and Phoenix, Arizona, where he has been training, Sachs said. “He’s had a remarkable effect on the children of the community,” Sachs said. Tyson also completed six months of counseling ordered by the judge, the lawyer said. With prosecutors’ consent, the judge dismissed the charge against Tyson and ordered the record sealed. Sachs called the decision “a victory for Mike Tyson.” (more…)
