  • Murray, Bursak Fighting For WBC Silver Middle Belt In Monaco

    World-ranked Martin Murray’s June 21 middleweight bout against Max Bursak in Monte Carlo has been sanctioned by the WBC for the vacant Silver belt.

    This is in recognition of Murray’s standing among the world’s elite middleweights and follows former holder Patrick Nielsen opting to fight for the WBA Interim title next month. Murray is rated #4 by the World Boxing Council.

    The Briton heads the “KO At The Casino” tournament in Monaco, a first class bill that now also includes unbeaten former IBO super-middleweight champion Tommy Oosthuizen (22-0-2, 13 KOs) of South Africa. (more…)

  • Ex-Contender Cordova Ready To Make Comeback After Layoff

    Former world title contender, Marvin Cordova Jr. (21-2-1, 11 KOs), is ready to make a comeback. Cordova Jr. is hungrier than ever, after serving a 3-year prison term for crimes he was arrested for in April of 2010.

    Cordova Jr., who now resides in Las Vegas, NV, recently completed a reform program in his home state of Colorado. At age 29, a matured and focused Cordova Jr. is prepared to get his boxing career back on track. He feels he’s learned his lesson.

    Chicago’s most popular professional boxer, Donovan “Da Bomb” George will return to action on Friday, June 20, headlining the next installment of the acclaimed “Fight Night” series in the Windy City’s Premier Boxing Venue, the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana.

  • Charr Gets Povetkin Fight In Moscow On Short Notice

    “Diamond Boy” Manuel Charr is heading to Moscow again to face former world champion Alexander Povetkin on May 30 for the WBC international heavyweight championship.

    “This will be an awesome fight”, says Charr. “I am very proud that I got invited to fight Povetkin and reached an agreement with his handlers. This is my big chance to get in line for another world title shot. The winner will move up the WBC ratings to a top position.

  • Former British Light Welter Contender Williams Returns May 24

    Wallasey’s Steve Williams makes his long-awaited return to the ring on May 24 at Deeside Leisure Centre, when he takes the first step on the journey that he hopes will see him find a place in the upper echelon of the domestic light welterweight scene.

  • Katie Taylor Leads Team Ireland Into European Elite Tourney

    The Irish Amateur Boxing Association have named a five-strong squad for the 2014 European Women’s Elite Championships in Bucharest, Romania in May/June.

    Boxing at the Championships, the 9th in the edition, begins at the Polyvalent Hall in Bucharest on May 31st.

    Olympic champion Katie Taylor will be aiming for the sixth successive European gold medal in the Romanian capital. (more…)

  • Matthysse Overcomes Molina, Thurman, Figueroa Win Title Fights

    On an exciting night when unbeaten WBA Interim Welterweight Champion Keith “One Time” Thurman retained his title with a third-round TKO over former world champion Julio “The Kidd” Diaz and undefeated Omar “Panterita” Figueroa successfully defended his WBC lightweight crown with a 12-round split decision over Jerry Belmontes, Lucas “The Machine” Matthysse stole the show with a spectacular, brutal 11th-round knockout over John Molina in the leading Fight of the Year candidate Saturday on Showtime.

    The Argentine, ranked No. 1 in the world at 140 pounds, was hurt in the first and dropped in the second and fifth rounds. But the former interim WBC 140-pound world champion came back with knockdowns in the eighth, tenth and eleventh to turn back a determined bid by Molina and capture the WBC Continental Americas Super Lightweight Championship.   • Martin Murray Headlines Monte Carlo Show Against Max Bursak

    Elite middleweight boxer Martin Murray, the pride of St Helens, England will make his Monte Carlo debut on June 21, topping the “KO at the Casino” tournament against world-rated Max Bursak of Ukraine in an international 10-rounder.

    It will be Murray’s second fight under the banner of South Africa’s Golden Gloves. On Wednesday night he stopped Ishmael Tetteh in seven rounds in South Africa.

    It will be Bursak’s third outing in the principality, having recorded a win and a loss in recent months. (more…)

    World Championship boxing returns to Barclays Center when the “The Siberian Rocky” Ruslan Provodnikov makes the first defense of his WBO junior welterweight title and his Brooklyn debut against undefeated world-rated contender and New York product Chris Algieri.
