    The World Boxing Association (WBA) continues to move forward toward its goal of having a single world champion per category and has so far managed to clear 10 of the 17 men’s divisions with different decisions by the Championships Committee.

    Of those seven remaining, three are already on track to have a single champion in the short term. The first is minimum weight, where super champion Thammanoon Niyomtrong has already been ordered to face champion Erick Rosa and the fight is in the negotiation period. In featherweight, the committee ordered Leigh Wood and Leo Santa Cruz to fight once the British fighter returns from his injury.

    Also, Gennady Golovkin must also face Erislandy Lara in the middleweight category, which will leave the division with only one champion for the pioneer body.

    Once the aforementioned bouts are finalized, the winners will join Hiroto Kyoguchio (light flyweight), Artem Dalakian (flyweight), Joshua Franco (super flyweight), Naoya Inoue (bantamweight) as sole champions, Murodjon Akhmadaliev (super bantamweight), Hector Garcia (super featherweight), Alberto Puello (super lightweight), Jermell Charlo (super welterweight), Dmitry Bivol (light heavyweight) and Arsen Goulamirian (cruiserweight) as the only champions of their divisions.

    The pioneer organization will continue to make decisions for the benefit of boxing to have only one champion per weight, as promised by president Gilberto Jesús Mendoza.
