  • Pacquiao Ready For Fahsan.

Manny Pacquiao, the thrilla from Manila returns to his native country this weekend to fight Thailand’s Fahsan 3K Battery in a battle of southpaws that is thought to be no more than a workout for Pacquiao ahead of his rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez in the New Year. Fahsan will likely have an argument for that theory though as the two collide in Pacquiao’s

anticipated return. Early reports were that Pacquiao was not training appropriately in the early stages of his preparations for the fight, but his American trainer Freddie Roach being on the scene for the last few weeks seems to have added another dimension to his discipline. Roach appears to have a talent for harnessing the talents of supposedly wayward fighters as he has found success with James Toney and Mike Tyson as well as Pacquiao. It has to be said that with Marquez’s disappointing return against Orlando Salido, the excitement surrounding Marquez and Pacquiao seemes to have decreased somewhat. However, Pacquiao will be looking to re-ignite the interest with an impressive stoppage of his opponent before going at Marquez once again.

  • Lewis Picks Klitschko.

England’s former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, Lennox Lewis recently spoke about the matters of his career and weighed in with a prediction concerning this Saturday’s WBC heavyweight title fight between champion Vitali Klitschko and challenger Danny Williams. Klitschko has always spoken of trying to tempt Lewis back in the ring since winning the title but Lewis is having none of it, saying: “At some point in your life, you have to think about your health and future, so whatever they offer me to fight won’t be enough.” Williams, whose last fight was a stunning fourth round knockout of Mike Tyson, was also the subject of Lewis’s comments. “Just looking at the fight and the statistics, I realize that Klitschko has a big advantage,” said Lewis. The former champion will be at ringside for the HBO telecast team during this Saturday’s heavyweight title fight.

British boxing’s latest amateur sensation Amir Khan will shortly turn eighteen years of age and the boxing world waits and wonders on what decision he will finally rest upon concerning the direction of his career. continue to fight towards the next Olympic games in 2008. However, the current amateur boxing organization in England is in absolute turmoil with a distinct lack of funding being a great concern to all and Khan was almost allowed to fight for another country when England’s amateur boxing association ruled him too young to compete in Athens. Thankfully the British boxing establishment was able to secure Khan’s services and his fame in the country is overwhelming. Promoter Frank Warren has already made attempts to secure Khan’s signature on a professional deal but the teenager from Bolton remains in limbo concerning the direction he will take in the next four years. More on this story as it happens.

Trained by Jeff Fenech, Hussein will likely get his chance to fight for the WBO version of the title in Australia. Hussein is also the brother of super bantamweight Nedal Hussein who recently lost a disappointing WBC super bantamweight title bid to champion Oscar Larios on the Marco Antonio Barrera-Erik Morales III card in Las Vegas. • Taylor Shuts Out Joppy.

Tonight in Little Rock, Arkansas, USA, Jermain “Bad Intentions” Taylor displayed great patience and an abundance of boxing skill and power in a great performance to score a complete wipeout over former three time WBA middleweight world champion William Joppy. Joppy, whose only other losses

came against Felix Trinidad, Bernard Hopkins and Julio Cesar Green was completely outclassed from the beginning and whatever ambition he brought was soon dismissed by Taylor’s brilliant versatility. Taylor managed to drop Joppy with a huge left hook in the fifth and Joppy’s attempts to survive became even more obvious afterwards. Joppy made no attempt to be competitive in the last half of the fight and Taylor, though not pulling the trigger on a hesitant Joppy, was very authoritative and scored the dominating twelve round decision with ease.

  • Krasniqi Retains European Title.

Tonight In Germany, European heavyweight champion Luan Krasniqi was unable to decisively make challenger Timo Hoffman pay for his pre-fight taunts as the fight was collectively scored a draw. No winner could be found between the two and as such, Krasniqi retains his European title. A return bout with Hoffman who is now trained by star American trainer Buddy McGirt might be the order of the day for Krasniqi to finally settle this situation. The fight was preceded by a brilliantly dominant display by middleweight Felix Sturm who knocked out former world champion Hassine Cherifi in three rounds, one round sooner than Felix Trinidad could manage. With the win, the possibility of Sturm meeting Trinidad next year remains a distinct possibility.

  • Sturm Stops Cherifi!

German middleweight star Felix Sturm continued the trend of vicious body punches that was started this year by the likes of Arturo Gatti, Bernard Hopkins and Felix Trinidad by stopping French toughguy Hassine Cherifi with a single left hook to the body in the third round tonight in Germany. The fight is the prelude to the big European heavyweight championship clash between champion Luan Krasniqi and challenger Timo Hoffman (that result still to come). Sturm made a name for himself in June of this year by outworking, and many thought doing enough to beat Oscar de la Hoya. However, De La Hoya was adjudged to have done enough on all three cards and took Sturm’s WBO middleweight title. Sturm called out any and all challengers from America in his after-fight interview.
