Guinn Beaten Again!
Heavyweight prospect Dominick Guinn suffered another disastrous loss tonight in Bally’s Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, USA when he lost a decision to fellow contender Serguei Lyakhovich. Trainer Ronnie Shields is not having the best of times these days as he has experienced high profile losses with Evander Holyfield and now Guinn in successive months. Lyakhovich, known as the “white wolf,” took the decision with scores of 94-96 on two cards and an even wider 93-97. Guinn’s future prospects look bleak at this point considering that he was the fighter who was once thought to be a serious contender to become a heavyweight champion. Lyakhovich’s only loss came came against Maurica Harris two years ago and he moves on to secure other important fights.
Also tonight at Bally’s, undefeated featherweight contender Rocky Juarez moved his record to a perfect twenty-two wins with a solid second round knockout of former WBC featherweight champion Guty Espadas Jr. Juarez stays on course to contest the IBF title against Juan Manuel Marquez.

Lucas Wins in Montreal.
Former super middleweight world champion Eric Lucas was the star of the show tonight as he returned to action in the light heavyweight division by scoring a technical knockout over veteran American Tony Menefee. The American, just a few fights shy of compiling a one-hundred fight ledger complained vigorously to the referee who had stepped in early in the second round after Menefee was wobbled by some smart combination punching from Lucas.
On the undercard, South African Dingaan Thobela’s weight increase did not help him against Lucien Bute. The fight had to be resigned to a higher weight class after Thobela could not reach the contracted lower weight. However, Bute overcame the former world champion regardless and stopped Thobela in the fourth round.
In heavyweight action, Jean Francois Bergeron took a six round decision over Reynaldo Minus. Bergeron may look to target newly crowned Canadian heavyweight champion Patrice L’Heureux for his next fight.

Arthur Cruises to Victory.
Despite all his pre-fight bravado, Argentina’s Nazareno Ruiz was barely in the argument tonight in Edinburgh Scotland as native son ‘Amazing’ Alex Arthur scored his nineteenth win against a single loss with a widely scored unanimous decision. Arthur showed maturity and skill to navigate his way to the twelve round decision win which incredibly happens to be his first time doing so. Domestic action looms on the immediate horizon for Arthur and the mouth-watering prospect of a return fight with his only conqueror to date, Michael Gomez remains an attractive alternative. Gomez is currently the WBU super featherweight champion of the world. Arthur also retained his IBF super featherweight title with the victory.

John-Rojas Collide….Literally.
The fight for the WBA featherweight championship between champion Chris John and challenger Jose Rojas ended suddenly in the fourth round when the two fighters clashed heads. Both fighters suffered bad cuts and were determined to be unable to continue to fight and as such the contest was called off. The fight was held in John’s native country of Indonesia and Rojas only received a shot at the title when initial challenger and former world champion Derrick “Smoke” Gainer pulled out of the fight due to reservations about the climate that would potentially affect his performance in the stadium. Juan Manuel Marquez is the WBA featherweight champion proper and also holds the IBF portion of the title.

A win for Juarez keeps him firmly placed as the primary challenger for unified champion Juan Manuel Marquez’s IBF title and after the Marquez-Pacquiao fight scheduled for February of the New Year, Juarez might well find himself in for a title fight.

Echols Survives Tough Fight.
Super middleweight contender Antwun echols withstood a fierce assault from his opponent Jameel Wilson in Northern Quest Casino in Airway Heights, Washington, USA tonight and stormed back to score a stoppage of his own in the seventh round. With the win, Echols remains as a viable super middleweight property for any and all contenders wishing to fight quality opposition. At thirty-two years of age it has been an eventful career for Echols so far with two of his five losses coming in world title attempts at middleweight against Bernard Hopkins and his most recent loss in a WBA super middleweight title defeat to Australia’s former champion Anthony Mundine. With the many super middleweight champions seemingly unwilling to fight one another, perhaps Echols can once again score some title action.

Hoffmann Offends Krasniqi.
Berlin – In the run-up to the European heavyweight championship between Luan Krasniqi, 27-1 (13), and Timo Hoffmann, 31-3 (18), on Saturday, Dec. 4, in Berlin challenger Hoffmann continued to release questionable and offensive comments. During a public workout session today at Hertie in Berlin Neu-Koeln the six-foot-seven Hoffmann refused to begin training after entering the boxing ring. He turned down the rope and the pads offered to him and instead released one statement to several hundred fans and journalist at the shopping mall. “I thank Berlin for supporting me and I want to bring the European heavyweight championship back to Germanyâ€, Hoffmann said. The European title, however, currently is already in the hands of a German: Luan Krasniqi. The tactless sideswipe in Hoffmann’s comment is that he questions his opponent’s citizenship because Krasniqi, who has lived in Germany for twenty years and has owned a German passport for ages, has Albanian parents.
