    Default Buddy Lee jump ropes

Hey I'm about to buy myself a new jump rope, i've been using a Nike jump rope with rubber cord for a year now, the middle cord part has gotten really thin and the cord got slow.
So I've been thinking about a Buddy Lee rope for some now. I just don't know which one, I'd like to get one to serve me for years of training without having to replace it.
Have any of you ever tried those? Which models? The price differences are quite big. There's this Aero Speed rope that seems to be great. I've never used something like the "d" models that have this different design. Has any of you? Please give me your opinion

not tried his ropes but I have used his methods in the books & tried to use it in the gym where everyone just plods away jumping one slow pace, they don't get the idea of increasing speed by training speed! DUH

I'm not familiar with Buddy lee jump ropes but I can tell you mine cost $10 and is fine. It's one of those light plastic ones. Being light makes it easy to use for fast skipping. I used to own an expensive leather rope but it was too heavy to be really effective. There are so many other things to spend money on like good gloves, headgear and a dentist fitted mouthguard that I'd hesitate to spend up big on a rope. But then again I've never seen this particular rope. :-)

i've purchased the Hyperformance Aero Speed rope + some spare parts like those swivel bearings and 2x cords. When I think of it, all the ropes i've had sofar i had to buy new ones because the rubber cord would get way too thin in the middle. i had to replace 4 jump ropes sofar, and every time i have to give about $15 or $20 to get a new one. this way i'll only need to replace the cord, and as for the handle, it's steel + neoprene so i believe it's gonna do well for conditioning

That sounds like a good one.

Here's a solution to keep it from getting worn away down the middle. If you want your rope to last don't skip on rough surfaces such as pavement, if possible jumprope on a smooth floor like in your boxing gym if there's enough space or if you have a dirt lot that you know of you can skip there. If you're like me where there's not enough room at my gym or any smooth or dirt surfaces at home you can make a win-win investment.

Buy some of those thin interlocking rubber/foam yoga mats, they're smooth enough that your jumprope won't get eaten up and on the flipside you can use it for calisthenics (abwork, etc.)

I got a good leather jumprope with the ballbearing handles which allows me to go as fast as I want, the matts add to the durability of the rope and help me out when I want to work on other exercises.

How's your jumprope work? Buddy Lee has a good book on the subject that really let's you work on specific goals, while getting the most out of your jumprope.

yea i jump on tarmac quite often during the summer. I was thinking of getting one of those mats but can't seem to get my ass up and drive to the shop.

I dunno, my friend has a Rucanor leather rope, but i don't like it as much as rubber though. It's kinda too light so he has to put it for a few minutes into a water bowl before practice.

Well my jumprope work is decent i'd say. As for speed I can do 90+ in 30 seconds, which is pretty good. But the rope won't go any faster no matter how hard i try. As for tricks, i've mastered several basic tricks such as sideswing, criss-cross... I can do up to about 300 double jumps, i don't do practice those a lot dunno why.

His jumprope must be pretty thin then, mine's not too light it would just take a couple days for the leather to become pliable enough. Well next time you find yourself at the shop you outta see if they some of those mats. I don't think one is enough because obviously you have to move around.

Did you know there's such a thing as jump rope competitions? I was looking up tricks before and I found there are plenty of teams with routines just like dance coreography. Alot of it combines breakdancing, dancing/hip-hop with a jumprope, anyways it's pretty wild stuff.

I like some of the ideas in Buddy Lee's book, establish how long you're going to go and a baseline (# of reps) that you can improve on. Right now I keep it basic, I move around, skip double-unders and do the criss-cross to break the monotony.
