lol... ok here it is.
Ya listening? and don't say it's obvious, because I guarantee you can't possibly comprehend the gravity of what I'm about to tell you unless you actually try it and see for yourself how powerful it is... I also guarantee that fewer than 3% of the posters who've ever been here have tried it. But those who have know exactly what I'm takling about....
ah shit, boss man coming. hang on...

ok, here it is..
watch tape of yourself. You can pick up things by watching other people and by shadow boxing you can correct thngs and drill them in, but until you watch tape OF YOURSELF, you can't possibly see what you do and don't do in pressure situations.
So next time you spar....every time you spar if you have the means, have someone film your session. Then study them and analyze what you're doing, and what you could have or should have done in various situations. Then your braing wil automatically register the information next time you're in that same situation. you will do it automatically...without thinking. You'll improve exponentially.
Might try it some time..Originally Posted by Von Milash

That'll help, and be rather entertaining to be honest..lol

It's been posted before Von. You can tape any part of your training, the bagwork, shadowboxing, sparring, you name it. The think the mirror is the most under appreciated part of a boxer's training because then you can focus on the any movement, the different sleights/shifts, feints. More than just a good reference tool as it's a good learning tool as well, as a big part of getting any move down is to get the feel for it, and repetition from then onward.
The big "Aw" comes from seeing it for yourself. Just think about all the poor trainers that are nagging their fighters over and over what they're doing wrong, but they don't see it for themselves. Just looking at yourself on the tv or in the mirror can almost be an awakening experience.
If you hear a voice within you saying that I am not a painter, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.
Ok, this is totally true. I just got a camera and taped two sparing sessions last week. I saw all sorts of shit. First I saw how beautiful and fast I am. But then I notest that I drop my left when I throw my right. I also saw other stuff. the second session I don't think I dropped my left once when throwing my right. It's a fucking hugely important tool.
I just feel a bit wierd doing it. It's either that I feel that it is flaunting my meager wealth since most people at my gym might not be able to afford one, or that I think they think filming is retarded. One of the old school boxers saw me setting up and was like 'yo what the fuck are doing? ' but fuck it. it's worth it.
I'll post some vids here in a week or two so y;all can see how beutiful I am. No actually I showed the films to my trainer ( who doesn't work at my boxing gym ) and he was able to give me good insight and I expect that people here can do the same.
good post Von

Hazmat, a LOT of guys drop their left when they throw the right but it doesn't really register until you see it. I filmed some bag work of myself and saw how low my hands really were, when all the while I thought I kept them up pretty good. They we OK, but not GREAT. The tape helped correct it. Seeing is believing.
for the other people who drop theleft when they throw the right, try this drill.. put your left hand out as though you've just thrown a jab. Then throw you're right, but treat it as though a requirement for throwing the right is that you pull you're left back just as hard and bring it to your cheek. ie, the right is almost "induced" by the left coming back. the left triggers the right.

Brilliant suggestion! Even if it's been suggested before, some of these things are good to bring up again for further discussions..
And I honestly think if you implement taping yourself on a regular basis, it can hugely speed up your improvement process. You're trainer can be there yelling things out your doing wrong over and over, but when you see yourself doing them wrong and make the concious thought to stop doing it,,, I think the subject of this post is perfect.. Not necessarily a secret, but a !!HUGE!!LY useful tool for improving yourself if you are really serious about working on all your techniques...
You can guarantee that just about every olympic sport that requires any skill or technique will be filmed by trainers and studied closely with the athlete to eliminate ANY flaws in their technique....
Also Football games and things like that.. Surely coaches go over video's because their is no other way that you could really show and demonstrate to a team what they are doing wrong, and in a way that they can see and understand immediately with a clear picture. literally...
Props on reminding everyone of this tip!!! I'm going to dust my camera up this afternoon. It's also a bit of fun watching it back later of course...
If you feel silly setting up the camera at the gym, you should offer to film another couple of people for a short time and just play it back for them at the gym. They'll see really quickly what a good idea it is and other will probably wish to bring their cameras in after that.
