Thread: Fat bastards

I rant about the heavy division all the time because i love boxing. In no other sport do you get the drama intensity and action than this great sport. But i feel robbed, robbed of a great era of heavyweights. Why dont we have an Ali, or a tyson, SOMBEBODY! Do we know why. because most heavyweights today are lazy fat bastards, we dont need to make a weight so feck training, the lighter you are the sharper you are look at marciano what did he weigh i dont know but he was solid. He wouldnt stop. But the mentality today is we dont need to make weight and i dont want to be lighter than my opponent. They seem to think the heavier the better. Someone put a limit on the division and make a fat bastard division this would sort the fat lazy guys out. And as far as a great heavy we can just hope.

So true, there is a guy who is a heavyweight and is currently 37-0 but not yet fought anyone with a heart beat, if you watch him train you would never believe he is a professional boxer nevermind 37-0. The right word hit the mark LAZY. And the trainers don't help

Yep, heavyweights interpretation of strict dieting is eating macdonalds 3 times a day rather than their usual 5 times.

Just look at Sultan Ibragimov, he looks like a construction worker

Well not all boxers (regardless of weight class) look like body builders and the ones that have even in the past didn't do so hot.

Lennox Lewis never looked like he was Mr. Universe

Marciano wasn't all ripped as people might think, he was just a tiny dude at 185. Rocky didn't look much different than Sultan looks he just fought harder


I don't think the physicality of the heavyweights has changed, I think the mentality has though....it seems that challengers aren't willing to take chances, it seems that unless they put you in with a total tomato can then fighters won't go for the KO.


As for being in shape Wladimir always comes in trained properly and more often than not gets a KO win and all he gets is ridicule for fighting mandatories and fighting smart.

For me, the only division that counts is the Heavyweight Division. The rest just look like little kids going at it to me.

We've got the greatest HW of the modern era reigning right now -Wladimir Klitchsko and he doesn't carry an ounce of fat on him.

So basically your sole interest in the sport is Wladimir Klitschko? Thats sweet.

Unless of course that was some clever sarcasm in suggesting that little kids would operate on a far higher skill level and produce much more thrilling combat than our reigning HW champ

Muscle bound HWs haven't always been really successful (BRUNO) but I know where your coming from. Wlad is about the best of the active heavys body wise and skill wise. He's not over muscled but defintley always in very good shape. David Haye will be similar bodied to Wlad but I expect him to weigh in at aroud 220-225 because he isn't naturally as big. As for the rest of them they don't look like they are training hard enough or eating the right foods going into fights (apart from Holyfield if we still count him) and they are ruining the most glamorous division of them all.

With the mentality of bigger is better, and "let's try for the homerun swing, 'cause I sure ain't gonna make it to the 12th round."

And Lennox Lewis may not have "looked like Mr. Universe" (whatever that means), but he was always in shape and LOOKED like the athlete he was.

Is it so hard to praise the efforts and skill of Klitschko without trying to build up the rest of the HW division at the same time?

Given his last couple fights, I'd say it really is. I mean how can you praise his efforts and skill when he is doing just enough against guys who are mediocre? Much as I agree with the first part of your post, you can't really accept that the division is garbage and full of fat lazy slobs, and at the same time be impressed that Klitschko is able to outjab them with his massive size advantage and take a boring UD without showing a shred of ring craft. I won't say I can see why Lyle is trying to build up the division as frankly I just don't understand how anyone is to entertained watching Klitschko in the first place. But I definetly see the logic in trying.

Well, I'm giving Klitschko the benefit of the doubt in this case, I guess. The truth is... he could've looked sharper in some of his last few fights. He seems to have played it safe. One glaring example was the Sultan fight. I don't care what anybody says. That fight was a hideous exhibition of boxing. That endless pawing by Klitschko was definitely getting on my nerves. So while I defend Klitschko on the basis of his improvement since his glass jaw days, at the same time I feel he could be showing more than he has been.
