I ain't a Calzaghe fan by any means, but he beats Roy Jones handy.
You want a sig bet Adam ? Name Change ?
Let me know.
The sensible boxing fan in me knows Calzhage has too much for Roy; but I dreamt that Roy won and so I'm going with that as i never dream about boxing!
Well obviously I'm rooting for Joe and think he will win but the people who just dismiss Jones as shot really annoy me.
Even if he is past his prime, it's still Roy Jones, one of the all time greatest fighters in the history of ever.
Nearly all of the great fighters have been able to roll back the years and pull off great wins past their prime, or after the 'experts' wrote them off, it's part of being a great fighter after all and I don't think it's at all fair for people to just shrug and say Jones is shot so a win over him means nothing.
We saw with B Hop a couple weeks ago that there can be plenty of life in these old legends yet and Jones is after all only 3 years older than Joe, and aside from a couple of KO losses early in fights Jones has never been in any ring wars.
Moving up to heavyweight may have taken a toll on his body but it was 4 years or so ago now and I imagine his body composition has stabalised by now.
If Calzaghe wins impressively I want him to credit for it.
The 'sensible' boxing fan knew that Kelly Pavlik was going to have an easy night with Bernard Hopkins and Christian Mijares was going to dominate the crude Vic Darhinyan.
You can never write an all time great off, especially at only 39, in today's world that's like 34 or 35 in the 70's or 80's
Not big on Calzaghe myself but I like the chip on his shoulder and energy.Aside from that he resembles a guy swatting bee's out of the air.I think he beats Jones, not on power as much as attrition and working those legs/stamina.
I think some people are in a bit of denial about Roy.The man is an all time great,a fantastic natural athlete with reflex and instinct really not repeated. But he is on the downside in a big way and while not totally shot in the since that he is getting dropped by feathers and winded after one.....he has managed to resurrect his career for one last big fight showdown by careful match making over his last three and measured fighting. That Tito fight was a farce, two huge marketable names hanging on to undeniable legacy.I don't blame Roy for capitalizing on his oppurtunity but their is no well of youth for him to drink from.
I will take Joe if someone that dislikes me wants to take the bet.
