Thread: I think Calzaghe vs Dawson is the best fight that could be made right now

We've had Floyd retire so all those megafights gone, at least for now.

Cotto has been dethroned, Pavlik has been humbled, there really is no big fight out there that we havn't already seen.

I mean of all the potential best matchups, they are all rematches, Margarito vs Williams 2, Marquez vs Pacquaio 3, Vazquez vs Marquez 4, Cotto vs Margarito 2.

I can't think of any real solid new matchups involving p4p stars.

Ok we might get a decent 3 round beatdown of David Haye if he fights a Klitschko next year but it's more a mismatch than a megafight.

Apart from Calzaghe fighting Dawson there isn't much out there on the horizon that really appeals to me, nothing that has me salivating at the thought of it anyhow.

I really think this fight NEEDS to be made.

For me this is an awesome matchup, both unbeaten, a classic battle between an old experienced champ against an undefeated young lion for the right to be called the unisputed light heavyweight champ.

I'm in agreement with Taeth that Dawson is a big test for Calzaghe, I really think this is a close fight. I'd favour Joe over the 12 rounds but he cannot afford to get careless like he has in his last two outings and the possibility of him getting caught means this is a watch behind the sofa type fight, for me at least!

Oh you're right definitely I doubt it could even sell as a PPV in America, probably one of the reasons why it won't get made.

But I mean as a hardcore fan's fight, it doesn't get better than this right now imo.

Pavlik v. Abraham is as significant as any other fight. Unification of the middleweight division is a big deal.

Kessler v. Taylor also is a huge fight.

Personally, although not on the same level of significance, I'm pretty hype on the Cunningham v. Adamek fight. Biggest fight in the cruiserweight division this year.

You mentioned Cotto v. Margarito II.

PBF v. Pacman (if he wins).

And for a slug fest: Areolla v. Haye. I understand it is not even close to on the same level as the others.

theres alot more better fights that can be made other thatn Joe vs BCD. especially at welter and lightweight. thats probably the best LHW fight that can be made right now but not the best in the whole sport.

Kessler Taylor doesn't really interest me, I mean I'd look forward to it, but nothing out of the ordinary. Both have been beat and neither are really all that exciting to watch, I mean you can't look at either of their careers and point to a really spectaculr win.

Plus Kessler would beat Taylor with relative ease imo.

I'm looking forward to Pavlik Abraham, but that insipid display against Bernard has really taken the shine away from Kelly imo.

But even on this list bud the Calzaghe vs Dawson fight is the Daddy ... both being undefeated helps it along quite a bit too ...

There's no matchups involving the best p4p fighters out there that can be made other than rematches of fights we've seen before.

Calzaghe is one of the top 3 p4p fighters in the world, undefeated, the Ring champ at BOTH 168 and 175, and he has the chance to fight Chad Dawson, also undefeated and a two time world champ for the UNDISPUTED lightheavyweight title.

What bigger fight can be made than that involving top p4p fighters that we havn't already seen?

Margarito Williams would be huge but its a rematch, Marquez Pacquio we've seen twice before.

The only other big unification matchups are Pavlik Abraham which although a great fight is clearly not as big as Calzaghe against Dawson, two undefeated champs going at it.

Calzaghe Dawson is hands down the best matchup that can be made right now.

You've got the number 2 or 3 p4p taking on probably the number 12 or so p4p in a unification fight, between undefeated fighters.

It's a huge matchup.
