With just over a week to go to this fight I think we need an offical poll and really sort out who we think is going to win the fight. We should also post all of the important infomation into this thread so we can keep a good progress on how the fight is going to go.
Firstly, how this fight isnt on UK tele is an absoulte joke. This fight has potential fight of the year written all over it and with both fighters having a lot to prove I dont understand all of this TV BS. It's a great shame that the fight isnt going to be aired for us and we will have to watch a stream, but there is no point moaning I think we just have to get on with it.
For the fight itself, this is going to be a cracker! Two of the finest 168 fighters putting it all on the line to prove whos the best. For Carls first defence I give him great respect travelling to the USA to fight one of the top fighters. Not a lot of fighters would do that on their first defence especailly against such a dangerous fighter in Jermain Taylor.
The fight :
Carl Froch: 24 (19 kos) - 0
For Carl Froch this will truelly be a great test which will show if he really does have what it takes to hang with the best at 168. This fight will be Carl's toughest test to do and he knows that, I feel this fight will be a lot harder than the Pascal test but Carl has the capbilites to do it IMO. With Carl being a natural 168 fighter, I know that hes not going to take a backwards step on the fight. Pressure fighting is what hes good at, I persoanlly think Jermain Taylor doesnt like fighters who dont stop moving.
For Carl to win this fight, he has to fight every round with a high punch tempo and work Taylor down. Carl Froch has some hurtful punches and with a sustained attack I believe that his power levels will be too much for Taylor. From what I have seen from Taylor in his last performances is that he does get sloppy at times, when he is in his game his is a deadly fighter but I dont see him doing it for the full 12 rounds.
A problem which Carl does have is his defence and he does need to adress this problem. If he gets hit with silly punches all night I am the first one to admit that he will lose a UD if Taylor boxes. But I dont think it's Jermain Taylors nature to simply try and outbox a fighter for 12 rounds because he knows that he doesnt have the stamina to do it. Taylors best rounds will be early and if Carl can get through them I believe that Carl can stop him late. If Taylor tries to toe on toe fight With Carl I think Carl will stop him. With Carl being such a strong 168 fighter I believe he packs more of a punch that Pavlik and we will see a similar fight to JT-Pavlik 1.
Jermain Taylor: 28 (17 kos) - 2 - 1
Jermain Taylor I believe does have the capabilites to beat Carl Froch in this fight and I will not deny that fact. He has great strengths in a very fast boxing style rugged with power which does cause a lot of fighters problems. Prior to his two losses to Pavlik, I believe we were seeing a declining fighter in Taylor who did have a lot of trouble with Wright, Ouma and Spinks. Although those fighters are all genuine quality fighters I believe with a man who beat the legend Hopkins twice we should have seen a lot more. After a stronger performance against Jeff Lacy I did see an improved fighter, a lot more confident. Lets bear in mind though that Jeff Lacy is ruined though and Carl Froch would smash him everywhere.
Now Taylor has a very tough test in Carl Froch where we are going to see if Jermain really does have what it takes to again be a top leveled fighter. After his two losses to Pavlik I do admit going up to 168 was a good move. Stamina issues have been adressed and this is where he lost the fight to Pavlik IMO. With him not having enough in the tank, his punch resistance wasnt as strong and he was being hurt by punches. If this issue does continue at 168 I believe hes going to find problems at this weight class with so many stronger fighters than at 160 can he take that much power applied with pressure? I think fighting Carl Froch was the best fight Taylor could have taken in my opinion because it can be complete success or back to square one again.
If the move to 168 has improved his stamina in line with his natural stength with him not being as pressured to fight to a weight I believe we can have a great champion in Jermain Taylor. Im really curious to see how much the losses to Pavlik have hurt the confidence of the former champion because they are two big losses to get over.
If Taylor can box Carl Froch for 12 solid rounds without feeling the pressures of Carl Froch he can win a solid UD here. But I dont see him doing this for 12 rounds. As I said before it's not in Taylors nature to put on a display of boxing IMO for 12 rounds. Hes shown in recent performances that he wants to engage fully and this is where I think he will lose the fight.
With his speed, he has to use it effectively enough to not be pressured enough, but one of Carl Frochs most underratted assets is his footwork with forwards and backwards fighting. Taylor will have to put on one of the best perfomances of his career in this fight to put his name back on the shelf as the best and he does have the capability to do it.
My personal take on the fight is that carl will be too much for Taylor and stop him late. It will be a very very very enjoyable fight but Im backing Carl Froch to prove that he is the best fighter at 168 and set up a cracker with Mikkel Kessler late 09. Im interested to hear your views on the fight and please post them. I will post as many links as I can find for the fight and I am so excited for it to happen.
COME ON FROCHY MY BOY LETS DO HIM SON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
