I think it's because most people are already writing JMM off, so yeah.. I guess people are considering it a tune-up. They should know better than to write JMM off before the fight even starts though.![]()

Perhaps the July 18 clash between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez wasn't so highly anticipated after all. Sources close to the situation have informed us that although Mayweather may have suffered a rib injury during training, poor ticket sales were the major contributing factor in the decision to postpone the bout. "Ticket sales suck," an anonymous source revealed.Indeed, ticket sales were moving much slower than anticipated. As late as Friday, fans could still purchase the limit of 10 tickets in the $300 price range, the second cheapest seats available. Given the fact that the bout was announced on May 2nd, just hours before Manny Pacquiao's clash with Ricky Hatton, it should come as no surprise that so many tickets were still available. With just 11 weeks separating the original announcement and the actual fight, there simply wasn't enough time for Golden Boy Promotions to properly promote the bout."The new date will depend on doctor's orders. Will it be a month later? Two months later? We don't know. He needs to heal," stated Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer. Although the fight has yet to be rescheduled, it's rumored that a likely date could be September 19, the weekend following Mexican Independence Day. Traditionally, it's a date that's always been reserved for fights involving Mexican boxers like Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Oscar De La Hoya and Juan Manuel Marquez. The move would give Golden Boy Promotions much more time to promote the event and likely bolster ticket sales within the Mexican community.

Tickets were just too expensive. In this economy, that was a dumb move by whoever set the prices, be it Golden Boy or the MGM.
Not Floyd or JMM's fault.
For one thing ticket sales and pay per view sales are generally depended on the main stream sports fans and general public, not just boxing/fight fans.
So the average sports fan and general public is asking, "who the hell is Juan Manuel Marquez?" So that's why it doesn't attract the average sports fan. The average boxing fan yes, but not the general public or the sports fan.
I really don't think its just the state of the economy, it also depends on how hot the event is, and let's be honest this fight isn't going to attract the regular joes or sports fans.
I mean just take the NBA finals with the Lakers where everyone is purchasing courtside tickets that are worth tens of thousands of dollars to see Kobe play basketball for the championship because the NBA is an exciting and hot sport with a great superstar in KObe.
Mayweather VS Marquez has a WTF question next to it for the average joes.
perhaps the fact there wont be any phillipinos or brits!!
one dangerous horrible bloke
It's a great event, but it's NOT ONE OF THOSE WORTH PAYING FOR.
Exactly. And this fight only appeals to boxing fans only, not the other categories of sports fans or regular Joes I've mentioned.
Not to mentioned Mayweather is not a draw with any other group, he's not DeLaHoya or Sugar Ray Leonard in their prime in terms of marketability to attract the other demographics. Mayweather can only blame his poor management team, and the way he portrays himself to the general public.
Best believe if this was DeLahoya or Leonard in their prime fighting Marquez it would have sold out in a few hours.
Sales are slow cause people are broke and floyd hasn't done much to convince people he has a chance to loose. He also hasn't given people a major reason so far to hate him yet. Without that, you look at the fight for what it really is.

Hidden Content Click clack ! Give up the purse.........or yetti will find you.
the fight was signed in May, we're in June, hmmm so not even 2 months of promotion for the fight yet, PAC/Hatton wasn't sold out till 2 weeks before the fight, and that fight was already signed by the end of December, so it had a good 5 months of promotion including 24/7, give me a break seriously
Lol! So much for " Marquez is more ppv attraction than Mosley cuz he's got the entire country behind him.. an entire country!" You're so full of shit Floyd.
Why do you list possible valid reasons and not include "All of the above"? It's probable that no one reason is more prominent than another but rather a combination of reasons leads to the downfall of pre-ticket sales for the bout. It's a lot of money for promoter to lose, when there are ways to extend the promotion.
I do think there is a limit to what you can squeeze out of boxing fans and certainly the longer the causal fans are left hanging the more disinterested they become.
