Default Does Bob Arum think we are that stupid?

Was just reading some quotes from the post fight press conference of the Clottey Cotto fight(by the way the judge that had it 114-113 Clottey gave him 5 of the last 6 rounds and Clottey only won by one point, let that sit for a bit) anyway.

Among some of Bob Arums quotes were this

I'll bold what I think is funny and why

    on a rematch with Clottey

“We’re going to have to talk to the Cotto people,” said Arum. “He has a lot of options. I would like for him to fight Manny Pacquiao. That would be a tremendous fight, and I hope we can get it done for November.”

I bolded the Pacquiao thing for a reason. Because then he went on to critisize Mayweather for fighting Marquez

“Floyd has a fight coming up with Marquez, and then he’ll probably want to fight Calderon,” said Arum referring to Ivan Calderson, the 108-pound champion who also fought on the show. “Mayweather won’t fight anyone that can beat him. He will only fight someone who he thinks is not a danger. Psychologically, he cannot take defeat.”

Does Arum think we are actually that stupid as boxing fans that we'll buy him trying to sale a Cotto vs Pacquiao fight and yet try to put Mayweather down for fighting a smaller guy in the same press conference?

But Cotto has proven in the past that he's willing to fight big physical welters that other fighters avoid like Clottey, Margarito and Mosley. Floyd hasn't done the same.

Arum says a lot of idiotic things, but I don't see a problem with this one comment.

Disagree with this Baldomir though trash was big; ODH was bigger at 154 than most of Cotto's opponents have been; Gatti although poor was bigger than Floyd! other than Marquez and Hatton Floyd has been smaller than most of his opponents.

Arum is right. Btw, It was Calderon himself who said he wants to fight Floyd next because he loves to pick on small fighters. Arum was just kinda repeating what Calderon said.

...perhaps and this is just a guess mind you. Perhaps Arum was goading Floyd because PBF has ALWAYS been in Bob Arum/Top Rank/Miguel Cotto's crosshair's.

I think a Cotto-Pacquiao fight would be bad for Manny because unlike Ricky, Miguel has done well with southpaws AND Miguel is not totally shot and he's just plain not afraid to get hit.

Of those mentioned, ODLH is the only opponent that was bigger than Floyd. Baldomir wasn't the bigger man. Floyd had almost 2 inches in height on him and 4 inches in reach. Gatti wasn't bigger than Floyd either - Floyd was taller and had more reach than Gatti. Since he has been at 147, he has fought ODLH and Hatton and now Marquez.

he fought also fought judah and mitchell. and to the person who said baldomir wasn't bigger..yes he was..baldomir had already had 5 or 6 fights at 154 before he fought floyd and came in the ring 10 pounds heavier than floyd.

And to what advantage did that extra weight serve Baldomir More power? Strength Stamina I didn't see any advantage.....I mean Monte Barrett destroyed Tye Fields and Ray Mercer just walloped Tim Sylvia and Monte and Ray were the smaller guys.....at some point TALENT plays a role.

Who has fought the more talents fighters? Floyd has had every opportunity to fight anyone he wanted to but has he taken advantage SURE He's taken advantage of fighting the Sharmba Mitchell's, Arturo Gatti's, and the Carlos Baldomir's of 147 and the surrounding divisions

The madness will never stop, they will be waking floyd up in bed at a retirement home years from now and people will still brag about how thier 22 year old fighter will kick floyds 82 year old ass, and the internet will light up with agreement. Shit if they hyped it just a little bit they probably could get a ton of cash out of pepole's pockets beliving calderon could really beat him. Some fans want him to loose that bad. Kinda sad.

The only threat to Floyd Mayweather IMO is Paul Williams at 154, I think he beats any fighter 140-154 and I still think he could beat Paul Williams as well. Cotto and Pacquiao would lose to Floyd Mayweather, mark my words he is an outstanding fighter and I can actually never see him losing.

you know what guys.....i think cotto maybe one stop away from a spent force, he hasnt seem quite the same in his last two fights, over the last 2 days i've re-watched some of his past fights ( judah, pinto, toures, mosley, alfonso, margarito ) then i watched the jennings and clottey.............and he doesnt seem the same, seems to have lost some speed and reaction time since the margarito fight.......he seems somewhat.....worn out a bit...i hope its not permanent and they can get of the train and go back the other way, i'm a huge fan of his but at this moment he seems gone somewhat

Yeah but the difference is that Pacquiao has a much a better chance of beating Cotto than JMM does Floyd. In fact on the 'Pac Calls out Cotto' thread pretty much everyone thinks Pac would beat Cotto.

the cotto i've seen since margarito would get beat by pac-man.......if miquel turns up as the same fighter who beat judah to mosley then pac would be in truble, but i think that cotto maybe, just maybe gone

I do agree with this, but on the same hand I think it mainly just highlights the fact that Floyd is held in a higher regard than Cotto, and is a better fighter. Now of course you can say Pac has a better chance of beating Cotto than Marquez would which is perfectly valid, but at the same time I think JMM poses some threats to Floyd which Manny wouldn't, and is virtually the same size so that is a bit of a double standard. Basically Pacquiao's style and athletecism just make him better suited to deal with a bigger stronger opponent; still Floyd is not a giant at all compared Marquez, as Cotto would be somewhat to Manny.

This could be true... I'm guessing PAC will be initially installed as the betting favorite when the Cotto fight gets signed.... Unlike PBF-JMM where PBF is a 4 to 1 favorite over JMM... A mismatch, unfair "megafight"...
