Primarily conditioning.. You could've had some "nervousness" type issues that can sap your conditioning as well.. Both of these can be helped, just keep working...

The philosophy i tell someone that i am conditioning is "Do it until you hate me"

I"ve seen fighters that are in great condition and they come back to the corner stating they lost their legs after the first round... I chalk that up to nerves sapping strength or posibly going out and gassing ones self with pointless punches. You can also concentrate on proper hydration before the fight...

    Just some thoughts..

Yeah, I think that it comes down to being relaxed.
If you hear a voice within you saying that I am not a painter, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.

    Hi there

Even though I'm relatively new to boxing, I know what nerves can do to you. Back when I used to swim, whenever a really important race came up, my arms and legs would just go. My strength would ebb and fade faster than I thought possible, even though I had prepared extensively for the race. It took me a long time before I learned to relax before a race.

If nerves are indeed a part of it, I would suggest that you try to stay loose. Relax, shake out your limbs, and be secure in the fact that you've prepared for this exact thing.

If conditioning is a part of it, I concur with cnote - work it til' it burns

    Good luck

Might sound funny but try not to have sex for at least a week before a fight.

Really I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that it was the lad's first fight...

They Adrenaline can really sap you if you aren't used to dealing with it... as can the nerves you'll no doubt have had all day... your parasympathetic nervous system is fired up and your muscles are literally tense all day.

One possibility I didn't see mentioned:

Water loss with or without low blood pressure.

When you combine nervousness, tension, heavy perspiration from normal exertion, and maybe even "making weight" you might be dehydrated or even have low blood pressure (dehydration aggravates this).

    Just another thought....
