Default What does 24/7 need to make it better???

I just posted what I thought would make it better in another thread... I'll paste it in here when I get a minute,,, but I think a lot of people agree this series is getting boring.. Especially when you are seeing the same thing from the same fighters over and over...

What do you think they could add to it or what aspects they could change to make it better,,,, and better for hyping and gathering excitement towards the main event..

Often i've read a post from someone like "I just watched 24/7 episode 1, I can't f'n wait for this fight!!!!"... But really the 24/7 just showed 25 mins of the fighters doing nothing... It's really the persons existing respect for both the fighters that is making them excited about the fight... I think 24/7 only really does a sole thing, and that's keep reminding you of the fight once a week..

It could, and should, do much more than that!

More sparring highlights. And more cooking stuff. I wanna see more of what they eat, their diet recipe.

Totally agree Diz, they just bore me frankly.

I said right from the very beginning that they should be reserved only for the superfights, and that for me would mean Mayweather Oscar, maybe Pacquaio Oscar and well that's about it so far.

I would love to see the old Countdown show brought back which instead of 4 episodes of training and pre fight speech would instead be one focused episode looking at the respective fighter's careers, including highlights of their last fights, assesment's of where they are now etc etc.

24/7 is just too formulaic and dull now. Same voice over man doing the same old voice overs for every show. It's like this show could just be assembled by a computer programmed to do cut and pastes.

The best way to make it better would be to just scrap it, and bring it back ONLY for the biggest fights, of which, to my mind there are only two. Mayweather Pacquiao and Wlad vs Haye.

They are the only shows that would be interesting enough to merit 4 episodes, and I don't even know if HBO would show a Wlad vs Haye card.

I think the UFC Countdown shows are better, focusing on not just the one fight, but also the other fights on the card too.

Ditch 24/7 it's run its course. Now his voice is as recognisable as the guy from the British Big Brother or National Lottery shows.

    He grates me.

They are probably boring because of the subject matter. If you are going to base a show around Manny Pacquiao out of the ring, prepare to be bored!

One solution. Do one with Mayorga!

    It needs more competative fights.

I love them. I really enjoyed the Pac v Margarito. I must be in the majority.

It could be more like fightcamp 360. IMO it's a superior show to 24/7.

I think this show is better because it shows you before, during and, after the fight and the only reason that can be done is because there is already another fight scheduled that the production crew can ove its focus onto next that can be transitioned into. While the show is better it wont work for just one fight with no other fight to transition to after the fight is over.

I agree with Bilbo, that voiceover guy is boring as f^&*. He is too monotonous. Plus it seems like they only do ones for Pac fights, I'm so sick of seeing him getting his ass kissed by Filipinos. Blah blah blah he is soo humble blah blah blah he is the biggest star ever in the history of the world. His entourage is also annoying. Lets watch some guys doing road work, thats great viewing. Oh its there day off and they do something boring as well. Heres Pac eating Filipino food, exhilarating stuff. What could they do to make it watchable? I dunno, maybe pull pranks on them, show more training techniques that havent been shown.

At the moment its HBO 24/7; except for what the fighters want to hide.

If the show is a training show they should start much earlier and give an overview of the training over a couple months.
If the show is a representative of the fighter's personalities, just do a single show and allow them to document their lives.
If the show is to sell tickets/PPV buys then show their highlights.
But imo this show is trying to cover all bases and failing really. I love the idea of following a fighter through his preparations, but hate when the go off on a tangent explaining the dear relationship between a fighter and his waterboy

Avoid the "overkill syndrome", where if it works for one fight, do it for all the others. If they ever stoop to doing a 24/7 with JCC Jr., I'm outta here.

Absolutely NOTHING. They are INCREDIBLY crafted pieces of documentary filmmaking. Honesty they could do one on a Sven Ottke vs. Bernard Hopkins fight and it would make people want to watch it. They are BRILLIANT.

What do you mean by better? More interesting, but for who? Hard core boxing fans or casual fans? I think they should target the casual fan. Do you think it lacks explanation about the sport? I do. I think making drama is what makes or breaks a shows interest. I've seen some Olympic sports athletes where they explain the competition and how scoring works, then get into they athlete's background highlighting the drama part of his struggle it to make it to the finals. But I think it was structured around cheering for the athlete to create patriotism. I think this format could work well for boxing.

They don't have to only do fight promotion. They could actually do some investivative stuff to expose boxings pitfalls. Safety issues, boxing commissions, weights, drugs and PEDS and how difficult is it for boxers from obscure countries to get a promoters and trainers to take them on. There is a whole interesting side of boxing that 24/7 could easily expose that would spark interest as well as help promote a better practice in the sport.
