    Default Alexander Moving to 147

Devon Alexander moving up in weight following victory over Lucas Matthysse - ESPN

"Devon never used to weaken in these fights. He didn't weaken in the (world title) fights with Junior Witter or (Juan) Urango. For those fights, he would get down to 146 and hit a wall at like 145 or 146. It took him a week and a half to get past 145, but he did it. For this fight with Matthysse, he got to 146 and he couldn't get past it. It took a few weeks and he finally broke through, but it took a lot. A lot.

"I can't keep putting my fighter at a disadvantage. He's gotta move up. We're taking off all this weight and there's no fat, so he's been taking off muscle."

Look if the guy can't make the weight and perform? He can't make the weight.

But I think this spells the end for Alexander. He doesn't punch hard enough to keep 140's off him, how the hell is he going to keep guys like Victor Ortiz or Mike Jones or even an Andre Berto from just walking through him and hunting him down. His trainer thinks Devon's legs are going now? Wait until he's taking bodyshots from a bigger set of men.

I think its a bs excuse to make his shitty performance look not so shitty. he's always been average honestly, people got crazy high on him on his ko of an average urango. He's quickly going up the ranks on my "disdain" list lol

Agree, I think he's on borrowed time. Has even more to do with Bradleys and Lucas volume and straight punching to me, calibur. He looks like he punches from the backseat and was pretty weary of incoming and on roller skates when things get physical and heated.

Devon punches like an MMA fighter and has no chance against the top guys at 140. Lost to Bradley who himself is overrated, lost to Kotelnik, then Mathyse. Maidana, Khan, Judah all beat him. The top guys at 135 beat him too. 147? Who the hell is he going to fight? Hard to find a good name, with who he lasts the distance, so they can rob him.

Alexander literally fights like an amateur. I don't mean his competence, I mean his lack of committment to his punching.

I gotta admit I thought the Urango KO meant that Alexander had figured out how to committ to his punches and that was what we'd see from then on.

Long as he fights at home he could fight in the cruiserweight division and win.

Not sure what this does for him. We all know he doesn't beat Pac or Floyd. Although i can see both of them hyping the shit out of Alexander to set up a fight. He doesn't beat Ortiz or Berto, and i think Mike Jones probably beats him too. I just see him fighting some fringe guys, then trying to cash in on a Pac or Floyd fight. To me it seems he's running from the 140 lbers to try to get a money fight, because his time is up.

That seems like an awfully good analysis to me.

If Alexander is to prolong his career then he should move up. Making weight at 140lb will eat into his career if what was said is true. Best thing is start again at 147lb, he relies on skill so may be better at welterweight. The move up in weight has helped rejuvenate many fighters careers. He is young enough.

For every career in boxing "rejuvenated" by moving up? A dozen have been wrecked.

He is moving up because he has finally realised that he sucks at 140. His record, over the last three fights, should read 0-3. Oh, and that noise he makes every time he punches pisses me right off. And he sounds like a retard.

I think its a good move. He's now been beaten 3 time (1 officially) and to be honest, he's not too much of an attraction at 140. He slaps most of his punches, and its wierd because he does have power to make damage.
